Scott if Orks are an army that require some skill to win with then why not take an army like IG to Baltimore rather than Witch Hunters? If you did good with IG that would be saying a lot.
It wouldn't matter online. Lots of folks in these forums seem only interested in ramming fixed, polarized positions down other peoples throats. They aren't here to share ideas, they are here to vent and insist on their view of things. Reasoned discourse is met with caveman one-liner.
Right/Wrong - Good/Bad - Black/White - On/Off...
...the death of fun
I have a friend here that plays
IG a lot. He likes the small special weapon drop units among other things. He does quite well against all of our 'top tier' armies. Having seen him play many times, and with his help, I believe I could field an unorthodox
IG army and do quite well at a
GT. Cheap drop units have been proven effective where I play. Tiny Schaefer units running around with St8 ordnance templates would be sick but would be a kill-point concern (unless I wiped the other guy out!). With
LOS blocking terrain Rough Riders are very useful. Three Demolishers played aggressively and well supported might be fun although risky. Sentinel abilities have changed in
V5. Im not saying it can be done but I am also not saying it can't.
I believe there are stronger books right know but an out of the norm
IG army might be competitive. If I managed to find a workable list and do well I am confident that success would be met by some folks here with something like "...oh he took an unfluffy build..." or "...he must have gotten lucky matchups..." etc. ad nauseum.
Back in 2004 I started playing Tau. Nobody where I live played them and I thought the tanks were cool (I am a sucker for a good tank model). I took six squads of six Fire Warriors, three Railheads, some Drone squads and the rest suits. I posted the list on the old
GW forum back then and the list and my understanding of the game was widely ridiculed and run down by most everyone that replied. I took it to the 2004 Atlanta
GT and pre-tournament several folks chuckled at my build. I won 1st place and all of a sudden online it was an abusive 'power build' and I was 'one of those guys'. What a bunch of poop-twaddle.
As to the other part of your point, Sisters in
V5 have yet to prove themselves as anything other than decent. I have been running Sisters off and on since they first were created and they look better to me in
V5 than they have before but we'll see. Five games at a
GT can do interesting things to ones belief structures. I have played horde Orks to a draw twice recently but that is only relevant data against an Ork player. In the case of the main build I am fooling with at the moment I don't run any Immolators or Rhinos. There are only two regular Flamers in the entire list and no Heavy Flamers. There are no cheap Stormtrooper scoring units. If I get low battle points I didn't 'do it right'. If I get high battle points it's an abusive build, Sisters are broken and I am a (fill in the negative epitaph).
It is reasonable to assume that if miniature gaming exists fifty years from now your grandchildren will be having these same bizarre exchanges.
(Notice I said YOUR grandchildren and not mine. I have been trying to get pregnant for years and no luck...
