Well the weekend's over, back to work tomorrow. I'm pleased with what I've achieved this weekend though. The chimera is now about 95% complete, just a few finishing touches and some arms for the commander. Here is the finished dozer blade. I'm particularly happy with how the chipped paint effect worked out:

And the hydraulics:

My two chimeras together:

And finally, a sneak peak at what's coming up next:

Hopefully I will get more done in the week.

I really enjoy your tanks with one exception-The camo pattern extends onto the tracks, if you know what I mean? Unless the tank has never moved then the pattern would be broken.

Just a little nit picky detail that caught my eye. Great Work in regards to your color scheme-Really cool!

@infilTRAITOR: stabbing me in the legs, while admittedly unpleasant, wouldn't affect my painting ability : )

@Faux Pas: I'm not sure which pictures you are looking at, but the tracks are painted scorched brown and then given numerous thin washes of dark flesh, graveyard earth and MIG pigments. Perhaps you were looking at a wip picture, in which case the tracks are the same colour as the hull because I airbrushed the whole model. Hopefully things will be a bit clearer in the following pics:

And while I have the camera out:

The new Chim is megaawesome. I love the little touches of damage on them, very tastefully done.

I've been pretty busy this week, but I did manage to put together my Malcador in my spare time. No traitor guard army would be complete without this quintessential renegade tank. Here it is ready for priming:

I plan on painting it this weekend and these are my two main inspirations:

What do you guys think about the colour scheme? Any suggestions or advice on how to go about this would be appreciated.

Cant wait to see that Malcador. I love IG, even renegades, and yours are looking cool indeed.

oh just a quick question, is the Forgeworld tank modeling book worth the money ? I was planning on getting it but the cost of shipping to Canada has made me wait for the timebeing.

Great work, really nice colour schemes and conversions on the guardsmen themselves.

Thanks

Thanks for your comments guys, your feedback is really appreciated, it keeps me motivated with this project. So, does anyone have any ideas as to what colour paints I should use on the Malcador?

@SkavenPlayer: the fatigues are basecoated desert yellow over a white undercoat. I did this with an airbrush to save time. I then shaded them all with burnt umber oil paint thinned with white spirit. This is a great technique for quick shading; capilliary action means that the paint naturally flows into the recesses. Because this is oil paint any mistakes can be corrected with a cotton bud and some clean white spirits. The fatigues were then highlighted with desert yellow and komando kahki, building up the highlights by adding more kahki in the mix.

As an alternative to oil paint you could just shade it with a dark brown, like scorched brown or maybe graveyard earth. the test model on the frst page was painted without oils and I think (I can't quite remember) that he was shaded with graveyard earth.

@stubbyGB: I'm not sure how much it costs to get it posted to Canada, but it's a great book. The merits of the FW masterclass are discussed by myself and others earlier in the thread. I found it really useful and my painting skills have been greatly improved by the techniques it describes. The only draw back is that you need an airbrush in order to really get the most out of it. If you don't have an airbrush and don't intend to buy one then I really wouldn't recommend the book. hope that helps.

I don't know why I didn't see this blog sooner! Always glad to see somebody doing some non-standard Guard.

Chimeras are fun, are they not? Doing great on them so far. Do you have enough now, or do you want more? I can't get enough chimeras, I want a few more vet squads to go with them...

That FW tank looks like a monster. Have fun painting it!

Mig Pigments are just gasping to be used of this beast like you've done the Chimera's, but colour scheme wise I say a nice brown tank like the FW would look nice

@Slann: No plans for a super heavy, I much prefer the WWI style of the Malcador.

Just to prove that there has been some progress on the infantry, slow though it's been, here are a few WIP shots of how they are looking at the moment. The light quality in these photos isn't great, but as they aren't finished yet I'm not too worried about this.

And here is a bit of progress on the malcador, so far it is only basecoated. I opted for Vallejo's German camo ochre in the end.

I hope to make some more progress this afternoon. Stay tuned...

Great progress Lost Hobbit looking forward to seeing this beast finished. And as for WW1 style tanks, there's allways the Valdor! I think that's a super-heavy I'm not sure.

@Bloodthirster: The Valdor is a super heavy, but is is based on the Malcador design.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The malcador was been lightly airbrushed German camo beige to add variations in tone to the tank and to lighten it. It was then drybrushed with dhened stone. This is how it looks at the moment:

Now for some shading and weathering...

I've done the weathering on the malcador and already the look has been greatly improved. I used the same techniques as on my chimeras for consistency. Here is how it is looking at the moment:
