Started working on my Valkyrie. Going for a Vendetta setup. I had a Land Raider Crusader and it had these Lascannon Sponsons in the box, so I finally got a use for them, they are going under the wings.

I have worked on the Valkyrie since this picture so there is more done... All that is left is the landing gear and the under-wing sponsons.... And the paint job.

That Vendetta is cool, the really bulky-looking lascannons seem far more menacing than the standard FW ones. Looks like it really means business!

Thanks guys, you all are too kind. Painting is going to be fun... I plan on doing her while I paint my Hell Hound.

Oh I got news for the army on the Apoc side of things... I just got back from a trade. 5 termies, a sergeant, and Captain for a storm lord tank seen below. That is the color I got it, and to be honest, I like it a lot. I put 2 of my Naval troops (Commander and a medic) next to the tank, showing the similarity to the two.

So I propose this to you all starting now and ending next friday.

1. Finish a platoon to match the Navy guys and leave the tank the way it is...

or

2. repaint the tank to my Guard colors.

I really dig the tank, for the most part. And I love your naval guys!

It'd be a shame to waste a paint job like that, but I have to ask - a naval tank? Not that there's no way it could make sense, it just isn't intuitive to me. I've seen the quality of your stuff, think of this not as nitpicking but more asking for your (sure to be impressively good) explanation.

The US Marines are technically under the Department of the Navy. So the way I was hoping to explain it would be that the Naval forces/attached Tech Priests recovered and rebuilt/repaired it. I would assume that some high profile space ports would be under Naval Protection and not under the PDF.

Actually given the size of 40k ships I can imagine the Navy owning tanks to fight against boarding actions within the vessel! Also it could be something captured and put into service by the boarding parties. This reminded me of a great old bit of fluff about why crews weren't simply bolted into their vessels!

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

I don't think they'd use a tank on a ship, what with the risk of decompression if even a minute hole were put in the hull.

But the thing with IG Tanks that a lot of people seem to forget, is that they'll rarely be from the same regiment as the Infantry or Arty or...

etc...

So having a few Red SH Tanks makes perfect sense in terms of fluff, as "They're just from a different Super-Heavy Regiment" is a perfectly acceptable excuse not to repaint them.

Very True.

I never posted my Militant Roster on this site. And with the Inclusion of Inquisitor Infilius, and earlier my Naval Guard. I will have to make several adjustments to the roster.

The 13th is assumed to be 3 Infantry Battalions strong, each with 4 companies. A 4th company is comprised of support elements such as artillery companies, Tank Companies, and several rear line companies. The Inquisitor's flag ship (Imperial Light Mars-Class Battle Cruiser) should sport it's own guard, thus the red/white uniforms. Which are meant to represent the Graven Naval Uniforms. My idea for the naval forces are to reinforce locations such as space ports to ammo dumps, never in the front but are able to hold the ground and fight just as well as a veteran guard force. So this company would be an all vet list.

A storm lord to me is a very defensive tank. holding ground versus horde infantry and light assault vehicles. so i guess it can fit in the naval forces no problem.

Heh. You know, as a Marine myself I had always equated the Fleet Security forces to the USMC in my head. For some reason though, I never really made the leap to the Imperial Navy including armor and whatnot the way the USMC does. Go figure. Anyway, as I expected, good to read the explanation.

I'm thinking of doing a Naval Security attachment myself (guys in black carapace armor, ala Eisenhorn) for my guard army too. Neat to see that someone else has already come up with the idea.

I am a choas noob to say the least with me being an Imperial Fan boy I know how to kill this list/army, but not use it. here is the pick of the army and any help/ advice will be appreciated. I will like to use this army to help get future friends into the game by letting them use this one while i grind gears with my Guard/Daemonhunters.

Remember Metallifan theres always the bit which are within the ship well away from the outer hull and anyway explosive decompression and later asphyxiation is one way of removing those pesky enemy boarders.....A Vacuum conversion/low gravity kit for tanks would be interesting. Magnetise the treads or something, Use a fission reactor for the engines (high tech planets can do this to the Russ......)All the vents would be sealed and removed except for a boarding lock door....May have to pursue this idea more later myself.

Well if this tank would be used on a ship I would assume they would use it as a mobile anti-assault boat turret. Using that Mega Bolter to fill incoming assault boats with holes.

Seeing as though many Imperial ships are freaking cities with engines I'm quite sure there's a place within the ship where a tank can be used 'safely'. The whole crap about armsmen only using shotguns when ships are kilometres long and ship armour is thicker than a land raider annoys me. If lasguns can barely go through human flesh what hope does it have against a sheet of tinfoil leave alone a space ships armoured hull. If they're that scared, use 9mm autoguns. MP5s use 9mm because one of the design specifications was that they didn't want bullets to go through people i.e. in a hostage situation.

Official GW fluff writers need to do their research before they publish some of the stuff they do. Don't even get me started on the caseless ammunition of the bolters...

Well GW fluff varies. I can list 3 different things for a Lasgun, and 2 for a bolter. Not to mention the laughable stats for the in-game use.

Lasgun A: (Grey Knights by Ben Counter) A laser energy beam that heats up the target... cooking the man inside the armor, or setting flesh afire with the extreme heat. To me this is a great weapon, give me one... I can cook a Marine my turning his armor into an Oven.

Lasgun B: (Harlequin by Ian Watson) The weapon only makes 2 noises, the click of the internal Mechanisms and the impact of the las bolt on the target... similar to the first one, but not as powerful vs armor.

Lasgun 3: (several other books, they do vary, but they have the same basic idea) a laser version of kinetic energy rifle... about the same potency as a modern day assualt rifle.

But as for the tank... It will be issued to the Naval Troops. Used as a defensive force to hold key locations.

If all goes as planned I should be near Killeen TX, but this summer.

Also I might have to start up another blog about my WHF army, Tomb Kings, as I get them from 1 regiment, 1 chariot, and 3 heroes to a much larger fighting force as I can now add 8 more regiments, a lord, 8 more chariots, and 24 more light horse men, not to mention what ever else I buy for them after i get to my location... thinking of casket of souls and a bone giant.
