Mystifying? Such a nice word ...
The new blast rule 6th ed.
It might be correct in a context that makes utterly no sense and is unsatisfying stupid. I guess it "mystifies " me, to use your word, because some of
GWs rules -writing style is as clear as mud...and this by far is one of them. They have taken a very simple concept (Blast template) and made it a sophisticated mess. It makes no reality sense or even a gaming sense. I say this because of the last 2 pages of this thread...
You're right. Clear as mud. Making the need for errata and
FAQ's so prevalent.
The rules for regular blast it states that a MODEL that fires a blast can hit and wound a UNIT that is out of range and out of
LOS. (I would assume that a UNIT is a grouping of MODELS)
It also then tells you to allocate the wounds as normal, which means starting from the closest model from the MODEL that fired the weapon.
The Rules for barage allow you to even fire at a TARGET that is out of sight. You then determine cover and wound allocation from the center of the blast, instead of the firing MODEL (whether the model can see the target hit or not)
The OUT OF SIGHT rule then disallows allocating wounds to any model in a target UNIT if no models in the firing UNIT have line of sight.
Both blast rules allow hitting and wounding models in a unit that are out of sight but are squashed by the OUt of Sight rule. If there is an exception for Barrage then there would be an exception for regular blast. Since neither entry has wording that provides an exemption from the Out of Sight rule.
