Just don't mention a certain tea party and revolt.

Hey! We invited you guys to that party, it's not our fault that you didn't show up and we hit the sauce. What would you do if you'd been shunned by your mates and were pissed (in both the American and the British sense of the word)? We said, "Ya know what, feth those guys, they don't wanna come to our tea party, we'll make the largest cup of brown joy the world's ever seen!" And then they started tossing crates into the ocean.

Total frat move on our part guys.

He said 'happy mix' so I assume the omission of French was purposeful.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Well, you know Quebec is not part of Canada. Ask anyone living there outside the cities.

I always thought of them as Canadian Scotland. Or Canadian Ireland, but without the bombings.

Well Cheesecat were on the wrong side of the country to really see the majority of the French-Canadian population. And I can honestly say having lived in BC and the Western states. People don't act terribly diffrent.

I'd fething love to go see Seattle again. But right now i'd settle for a trip back to PG or Van.

Oh, there have been bombings in Quebec. A while back some politicians got a "surprise" in their mail.

Yeah, but I don't see the Canadian government sending in the troops and establishing internment camps. Maybe it is more similar to the Basque region.

Meh. Those barely qualify as a bomb. If it didn't at least blow up a car, it's not a bombing, it's an assassination with an explosive device.

Hardly. It's very hard to understand them in their native environment.

As for myself, I just use the LCD language because the exquisite forms of French are very ill-translated by "da Googlz."

Sadly, no. My father's most fervent dream is of separation. He gets quite embarassed when I ask him what'll happen afterwards. Being a *somewhat* bilingual individual in Québec can get lonely, as you're eyed as a traitor by some.

Look at the "values charter" debate going on this week, for instance...

Tell him not to be. Economically speaking, Quebec is actually in a better position than any other state or province in the US or Canada combined to be it's own economic entity. Not only does it hold 51% of Canada's total venture capital, it also has 61% of it's high tech industry, and is home to the world's largest producer of aluminum. Each year, Quebec exports 68 billion Canadian dollars+ worth of goods per annum, and it's primary imports are crude oil and cars.

This beats out Texas (the only other state or province with a serious interest in separation) due to it's diversity in major exports. (though Texas makes more money, it's also beholden to a single market, meaning it's less stable.). Interestingly enough, a joint venture between the two would effectively allow them to create two stable, viable states, as long as they don't piss off the rest of the US and Canada in the process.

Frankly, if they manage to elect a government even half as smart as the US Congress, they should be stable (meaning they could elect utter morons and probably remain economically viable). The real issue would be maneuvering through the ethnic minefield and making each ethnicity in Quebec feel fully invested in it. Which would be the tricky part.

Technically, our aluminium industry does not belong to us anymore, it's owned by a company in another country. Although our electricity is still, at the moment, making it viable to ship bauxite all the way to us.

The only reason my father wants to separate, and not everyone but an important part of the population, is to sever ties with the Anglophone world. With the laws being proposed or discussed right now... it feels a little xenophobic at the moment in here.

And please, no joint venture between Texas and Québec, it would be enough for my ex-wife to come knocking on my door.
