We also don't know the situation with that one Marine. Maybe he was the only one to make it to Drakan, but was killed by Eversors after. Maybe the remnants of both forces were wiped out when a desperate Captain detonated a big meltabomb on himself. We don't know how many Marines there were, how many died, or how many of those hundred Eversors died.

This is true. Also, Eversors exploded when killed. If they were to attack the Space Marines en mass then they could have killed each other when one died (possibly causing a chain reaction).
EDIT: Come to think of it, why is nobody talking about how a Grand Master of Assassins was killed by a single Marine with a bolt pistol?

It is strange. Maybe he was an assassin himself though. It's possible he was just a bureaucrat in charge. Also wasn't he mad? Potentially enough that he didn't\couldn't fight properly?

I thought that the Grand Master of Assasins being killed by a single shot of the Marine's bolt pistol was likely AFTER he had fought and lost, with his death being delivered execution style after disarming/disabling him to receive the Emperor's judgement.

Yea, the story very clearly left out specific details. I don't know if that's because we're supposed to fill in the blanks or if it's because most codex fluff tends to be brief like that, but I figured it was possible the whole "survived to put a bolt pistol to his head" left out the "after a fight with him" for brevity's sake.

Clearly it was just 1 Marine with a Heavy Bolter.

When he reached the target he was out of ammo, so he had to use his pistol.

Krieg! What a hole...

Nah, it was 3 whole chapters, and a single scout survived by hiding in the corner for everyone to die.

... because the 100 assassins were killed by six Devastators with flamers and heavy bolters?

And, who says the grand master has to be a skilled assassin?

His job is to order around the other assassins and sit on the High Lords, not to do field missions. It'd be a waste to put your best field agent on the job, surely?

Yeah, the way it was described in the story it sounded to me like the Grand Master was more of a bureaucrat than an assassin himself.

It's fairly unlikely, considering how bug-nuts they are, that the Grand Master of the Eversor Temple is an Eversor him or herself. They just can't function in a leadership role like that.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Exactly. It says very little other than that the last Marine probably did not have much of a fight on his hands when he reached the grand master, though.
