Yes, indeed. The game has atmosphere for miles. The ruined ships, the piles of dried-out coral, the names given to regions and the occasional images of the world-that-was paint a definitive picture of the post-apocalypse.
It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.
It's a good tie-in to the movie and some of the comics. The story of the game more or less tells the same story as that of Max's two-part comic story, having a lot of elements in common.
That said though, I much prefer the story of the game over that of the comic, the last cutscene alone nicely punches you in the gut and shows you just how far off the edge Max truly is.
So peeps, is this worth a full price purchase or ok to wait a bit and see if it drops?
Im not a huge MM fan btw and wouldnt be 100% sure my rig could do it justice.
However, the open world style and story driven elements do grab me.

If you're not a fan I'd wait until it drops a bit in price.
That said though, it's a nice game with some sweet and solid mechanics, a satisfyingly easy to use combat system, with some nice combos and special moves in there as well.
