Your statements reflect your personal mind set. The expectation that plastic will be inferior to metal or resin is an expectation from 20 years ago.
No, it's a widespread consumer view that I'm hardly the only one to share, and I gave reasons earlier as to why. Plastic cannot do certain kinds of detail and sculpting well due to the nature of its production. Edge detail tends to get stretched (sometimes quite extensively), undercuts require additional parts or alternative sculpting, certain kinds of angles dont work right, etc.
Edit: also forgot, monopose characters are especially bad in plastic, as the "lego" factor of building, converting and posing models with general infantry kits without needing to get into cutting and resculpting, is dramatically reduced or eliminated entirely.
Your estimates of cost are years out of date as well. One only has to look at what Forgeworld charges for models for what GW thinks resin models should cost.
FW's character models are in par or cheaper in many cases than plastic
GW equivalents. More to the point, they are a niche premium house for higher end products, and when main line product pricing is matching or exceeding that, something is off.
X-Wing has displaced 40K as the number one miniatures game. It's simpler, pre-painted, and allows one to play with minimal effort.
GW has also never had as many miniatures companies to compete with as they do now. Both Malifuax and Infinity has siphoned away from GW's potential client base.
Right, but pricing absolutely factors into these things. Xwing is a fraction of the cost of
40k. Malifaux manages to do plastic kits at a dramatically lower price point than
GW.
That's you comparing the price of models you picked up more than a decade ago to current prices, and then applying your personal preferences about what is and is not justifyable to spend on toy soldiers.
this wasnt more than a decade ago, this was as recently as 5E. I picked up Kharne in I think in 2009 or 2010 for $12 or $15. Not yesterday, but not a decade ago either, and inflation certainly hasnt paced that high.
Assuming that everything GW is wrong all the time, is equally foolish. Good thing neither of us did either of those things.
I never made such a claim. The only claim I made was that
GW has a history of irrational business decisions and that assuming something is profitable just because they are doing it is a mistake. That is not the same thing as assuming everything
GW does is wrong all the time.
