True that, if there's one thing in this world it's a good time for, it is truly modelling.

40k: Necrons/Imperial Guard/ Space marines
Bolt Action: Germany/ USA
Project Z.

If you had your way what kind of minutes would you collect.

If space was not an issue, I would continue with Chaos, Skaven, Chaos Dwarves that I have already, and also add Empire, Vampire Counts, Orcs & Goblins, Ogre Kingdoms and Wood Elves, collecting for WHFB 6th-8th edition. I feel the need to collect coherent armies. Also could come in handy later if I meet opponents or my daughter (now 3) someday wants to play.

I agree about the GW bubble, I would collect a lot of the new armies from 3D printed ranges now.

The thing about 40k is that no one person can grasp the fullness of it.

He looks cool though. More character than just another metal army.

Sounds like you already know which armies should go and what you want to paint.

As for complete armies, there's nothing wrong with that, but maybe there's room in your life for one shelf or minis case just for painted one-off character models that inspire you regardless of army, game or brand.

I also lean mostly toward complete forces -and GW minis are the largest portion of my collection but I also have allot of warbands and forces painted up for indie rulesets that allow me to dabble in a wide variety of minis from various sources.

Maybe. The space is always a concern. But this is turning into a blog for me.

Another question, does anyone collect only 1-2 armies, but collect the hell out of them? I myself have over 10K pts (8th ed) of WHFB Chaos. I've heard tales of people with vastly larger forces.

Struggling about in Asmos territory.

Forgot btw that I also kindof like anything undead and have been eyeballing the Ossiarch for a while, and then there is the chaos faction of warhammer old world, I may have to repaint a big existing chaos knights army from aos for those but saw some really awesome units in the previews for future releases like the lycanthropes and the large chaos beast.

I really need to watch out not to throw too much money around -_-

If I took my WHFB Chaos in its entirety (mortals and daemons of all 4 Gods, Norscans, Chorfs, and Beastmen) I’m around 33,500 points. The entirely unrealistic dream is to one day(s) get them all on one table for a mega-battle.

My biggest ‘one army book’ force is my Orcs and Goblins at 16,700-ish.

I like collecting and painting big fantasy armies, the WHFB World being my only real world of interest aside from Mutant Chronicles / Warzone which I could never find anyone to play.

I understand the urge, and could see myself collecting a lot of dwarfs or undead, but don't.

I usually move on to collecting and painting something else when I have more than 1.5 times the stuff required for a typical game.
That as much stuff as I'll realistically actually use.
For historical wargames it might have other playability requirements, like covering several similar nations/lists.

I tend to collect far too much of an army and honestly sometimes I adore a good thematic spam army, but I've rarely gone too overboard with it simply because I don't want to paint the same thing multiple times. Never been a huge fan of rank and file style games for this reason either.

Empire. Definitely Empire.

When Mordheim was new, I picked up the Empire State Troops, since the parts were interchangeable with the Mordheim Mercenary sprue. That's when I found out I really liked painting Landsknects. Since then, I would always pick up the odd Mordheim or Empire model for D&D.

It only escalated when I started my webcomic, Big Fantasy Epic. Depending on what MTO models come out for The Old World Empire launch, my wallet could be very wounded

They look great. Empire seems to be like 40K Imperial Guard, it leads to big collections and customisations.
