^I can certainly see not wanting to keep up with the churn in a game you weren't keen on.
One of the nice things about that era
imho was that the codexes themselves were cheap. No, there wasn't s lot of fluff (although some of what they did have was great), but the books themselves were like 15-20 dollars US.
The rules didn't have as much texture as 2nd, for sure. But they sure had more than 8th+!
