I'm interested in doing more in the way of converting my Warhammer 40K figures, and have really been inspired by a lot of the Scout Sniper, Speeder/Buggy and Quad Attack Bike conversions I've seen other people create in particular.  In order to make some of the conversions I have in mind (Long Las barrels, Wheel Struts and Axels, etc.) I'm going to need styrene plastic rods and tubing.  My question is this:

"What size rods and tubing would you guys recommend for these kind of conversions?"  :S

Thanks in advance for any replies and recommendations people can offer me.

If you haven't used styrene rods and tubes before I recomend picking up the mix bag pack from Evergreen Styrene. It's a good way to get multiple sizes of what you want. Then, after you notice that one of your sizes has run out before the others you can go and buy a couple of packs of that one.

If you have used that stuff before then ignore this post and wait for the guys that made those conversions to answer.

I've just bought a bunch of tubes for similar purposes. I went to a shop, looked at what they had and bought what seemed about right. It's quite cheap.

They are 2mm and 4mm diameter which is what you might call small arms size. I'm using them for Tau vehicle flechette systems, decoy launchers and so on. If you wanted to make bigger gun barrels, like rocket launchers, obviously you'd need wider tubing.

Anything load-bearing on a metal figure should be done with steel wire rather than plastic rod. If you are converting plastic vehicles, you could put narrow steel wire down plastic tube giving you both strength and convenience of fixing.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Thanks guys. I took Glaive Company CO's advise and ordered 3 packs of the Evergreen Rod and Tub assortment packs, and a single pack of the Evergreen Odds and Ends pack. That way I'll have a wide assortment of varying lengths of different Rods and Tubes to work from, and some spare styrene sheeting and other strips as well.

We'll see what I can produce with all of this!

Thanks again,
Keith
