These are the first squad for an infantry platoon I am working on.  They include a missile launcher, grenade launcher, comms and a Sgt.  They are all armed with autoguns.  The minis are from Hasslefree Miniatures (Grymn) and are the modern day equivalent of Squats.

those would make for a pretty cool guard army.

What about vehicles?Are you going to shrink size some normal GW stuff or make up something?

I have converted a Sentinel to go with these:



but apart from that, with a 400pt Guard Patrol, after I'd put in an infantry platoon, I didn't have many points to play with.

In the future I will be adding to it but I will focus on infantry and infantry support before I add any vehicles.

I have never heard an IG player say something like this...all IG players I know buy their 3rd Leman Russ before they get themself a third Infantry Unit...

I'm a big fan of Hasslefree, and these make excellent 'modern' squats. I like the nice touch with the leg shortening on the sentinel.

 

What's next?

I also like Hasslefree and until now it never ppopped into my mind to use Grym for a Kill Team....although my Witchhunter might not like having them in his army......

Very nice people, they communicate well and their prices are good for really nice miniatures.

With regard to 'Green Stuff', the comms trooper, grenade launcher trooper and the Sentinel have all had a bit of sculpting done. The comms trooper had a headset and cable added, the Grenade launcher trooper had a headswap with hair and moschops sculpted on and the Sentinel had the rear section built up with GS and the weapon system/feed was also GS'd. The Sentinel pilot has sculpted legs (but you'll not ever see them )

Future plans include finishing the patrol force (2 squads, a cmd squad and a Sentinel). Once that is done I will add a Stormtrooper unit (I use the Grenadiers doctrine, so they will count as troops), and a Command platoon. The command platoon will have the cmd squad, a missile launcher squad, an auto cannon squad and a sniper squad (I have all the minis bought but will need to do a lot of converting ). Once they are done, I will start thinking about a bit of mass production of my scratch built APC (it is still in progress )...but that is a long way off.

This pic shows the other side of the Sentinel and the weapon that is mounted there. The Sentinel is a bit bland at the moment because I still need to add the decals / markings and dirty up the silver a bit. I won't be adding camo because I am basing these on the British army and they leave thier trucks green.

I really dont like the mini's to be honest :/ They have no beards so thats the first bad point, and secondly... a female space dwarf? O.o Possible, but not in line with any of the fluff whatsoever

I count 3 with beards/mustaches.  I would think that beards sticking out of space helmet yould sorta lose the usefulness of having a pressurized suit.

And there can be female dwarves in fantasy, but not in space? How do they reproduce, asexually?

There are more with beards on the website.  I personally would like that they be different in 40K than Fantasy, as they are not the same race.

Think of them as short humans and not the sci-fi equivalent of fantasy Dwarves and you may get past the fact that there are few beards. These are IG as far as I am concerned, maybe from a high gravity world or even one where the inhabitants happen to be shorter than normal humans. The lasses fight next to the lads because sexism went awol in the 39th millenium. The Inquisition are keeping an eye on them but so far, they have found little wrong with the genestock and the loyalty and obedience of these troops, to the Emperor, is second to none.

All I am doing with these is building up a force using my favourite rules/codecis and my favourite minis. I don't wargame so the GW only policy at Gamesdays/tourneys doesnt apply. I enjoy the converting/painting and sculpting side of the hobby and if I can give a little inspiration to anyone at all then I will be a happy man. There is more out there than just GW you know .

If you really like the bearded Squat style of Dwarf then you should take a look at Ollies Armies. He does a range called Scrunts and they really fit the bill (or you could trawl E-bay and see if you can pick up some GW Squats...they'll cost you though ).

Hey N....67 (sorry but the name is a bit difficult)...give it time and there will be a few more conversions and GS sculpts coming up. I just have to keep my composure while posting on this rather unforgiving forum program (It took me three goes to get this thread started ).

Add some length to the guns and a scope and you have some much better looking ratlings!

Sweet, I look forward to seeing more of your stuff. I recall seing some of your killer conversions (here and elsewhere perhaps?) many moons ago. And yes, the "new" board software leave much to be desired. Quite unforgiving indeed. The post editor is even worse, unfortunately. 'Ratlings' indeed...if you want different Ratlings, try Hasslefree Miniatures Kindred, they have a WW1 feel about them but look the Bees Knees .

And to Iron, according to the Squat fluff when I mentioned squats and such, females job's were to look after and raise the children while the husbands go to war until there 70 i think it was.... Something along them lines

Cool idea. For the lasguns thouugh I would have extended the barrel. Right now they look like shotguns. But that is a minor gripe. They look awesome!
