I'm sure this topic was covered at length somewhere but....

My friend who plays space wolves tells me that his wolf guard can take master- crafted heavy weapons. This flies in the face of all that is just and what's worse is that the RAW  seem to support his claim! Someone please direct me to a FAQ or some rule I missed. After all why would some backwoods barbarians have master crafted heavy weapons when NO ONE else does?

Power-armoured Wolf Guard can indeed have Master Crafted heavy weapons. Terminators can not, since Space Wolf Terminators can't take a Master Crafted weapon at all.

There is no specific rule that says they can do this. They simply have access to both heavy weapons, and the armoury. Master Crafting is applied to any weapon. Nothing excludes heavy weapons from this.

Those 'backwoods barbarians' have the same training and education as any other Chapter... and a reverential regard for their weapons and equipment, combined with a healthy does of disdain for the regimented views of other Chapters, which allows them to do what they want, rather than being bound by 'but this is the way it's supposed to be done...'

Along the same line, Wolfguard can have bikes and heavy weapons together. A waste of points for sure, but something you could do.

Probably would be fun to model some......

I've seen the Reaper Exarch with both weapon options and both look like things you can buy in sex shops. A weapon should not look like this, not even a Emperor's Children weapon. -Symbio Joe

Thanks for the response though it was'nt the answer i was looking for.

And Insaniak, yes they do have the same training and education as other chapters which is why it makes no sense that no one else has master- crafted heavy weapons; it's not like they order their heavy weapons from a catalog and pay for the name brand when everyone else orders generic! Master crafted weapons are relics of a bygone era made made with techniques or equipment that has since been lost- kinda like ancient Japanese swords compared with comtemporary swords (which you CAN buy out of a catalog).
So if anyone could have master- crafted heavy weapons it should be chaos (not that i like chaos but all thier stuff is supposed to be really old).

At the end of the day, though, it really doesn;t matter. Different Chapters have different rules. That's all there is to it.
