At one point there was some discussions as to running 6 dreadnoughts in a Space Marine Army 3 as elite and 3 as Heavy's.

I was looking through my SM codex and could not find an in place of rule and wanted to know if anyone knew if GW ever fixed or changed this ability.

Seems like a large dicussion was on the boards about a year ago and I would like to find the answer.  It is not in the last update for Space Marines in the knowledge area of GW's web.

FAQs keep popping up confirming it as OK to take 6, but the only one that remains available (AFAIK) is one in Spanish. So, for the English-speaking world, it's still up in the air.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

Lost, but i'll soon find myself!

I beleive Blood Angels and Heed the wisdom of the Ancients trait Space Marines can pack 6 Dreadnoughts. For Blood Angels, a regular dread is Heavy Support and Furioso's are Elites, so you could take 6. I have a little army planned out with 3 of each, all dropping in pods, but against Tau it'd get shot to pieces.

2000 Tau (No Kroot)
2500+ Marines (Blood Angels)
2000+ IG (...plain i guess...)

Well, by the fluff, 10 Space Marines can kill whole PDF companies single-handed, and Rhinos are actually worthwhile vehicles, and a Vindicare assassin is an war-changing individual, and... well, you get the idea. Just because they write someting in the background, it doesn't mean that it fits with the game. My personal fluff "reason" for fielding so many Dreads is that the Diamondbacks chapter has been around since shortly after the Heresy, and have maintained a policy of salvaging Dreadnoughts from the abandoned homes of Chapters lost to casualties or calamity; as a result, they have a much larger proportion of Dreadnoughts than any other Chapter.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

it is in the space mairne codex under heed the wisdom of the ancients as a chapter trait

in it it staes you may take 3 as elite and 3 as heavy support the 3 taken as elite must be taken as venerable and the 0-1 limit is removed

now as of 8-16-2006 the new space marine faq confirms that and says without a doubt that you can 3 and 3 and make all 6 venerable

there it is boys and girls

have a nice day

No, thats wrong. You may only take 3 dreadnoughts, and only the ones chosen as elites may be venerable. The FAQ is not official, and goes against the designers intent, and the RAWBM (rules as written by me).

hate to break it to you.. now follow along.. any errate published in an faq by gw becomes official policey

if you dont like it too bad

thats the way it is you want to write your own rules you go ahead but when you go play in an official sanctioned event and i walk up and shove 6 dreads on the table you have one choice quit and forfeit or shut up and play

those are your only choices
