Here he is!

I have 2 issues with this model, and may even get another one and start over.  The first is the lion head on the shoulder was hard to file off so finally I covered the lump with some plastic card, I'll paint it as armor and call it done.

The other is errant file stroke took a bit out of his head, I'm debating between trying to green stuff it and trying to make it look like wound.

For paint I plan on gold and red and black.  Gold armor, red sash and cloth, black weapons and trim.  Any suggestions on that?  Has anyone tried painting metalic gold over orange?  Would that work better?

Nice looking figure.  Have you thought about adding a GS cloak and a powerfist?  Also, if you worked a bit on the waist, it would help to mitigate the "chain mail" look.  Possibly a wide belt like on the marine armor.

a cloak is very easy to do, but he has so much stuff going on already I'm a bit relucant. But it might work.

I was going to do a powerfist but a PF is the same size as his existing fist, so I'm not sure it's needed. Again I'll think about it.

I can't see the face, would you please post another pic.
the shoulder really does look a bit strange and I can't see how a powerfist would be too big for him. have you tried the plactic fist from the CSM sprue?

Green Bloater, are you supposed to be clever?

Oh no, you're just a Jack@ss.

Constructive comments please?

Kid Kyoto, I LOVE IT!!! Chinesus and possibly even Japanesus would agree that model is a fine Space Emperor! Although it would be cooler if you showed him flying or surfing on his intergalatic surfboard.

and while modeling a galactic surfboard, model him some tears since he's whining all the time that Galactus won't have the time to fight him....

Or at least have the spine to post your own work rather than slagging other's works with no risk of your own. Please go clamber back under your bridge or whatever rock it is you crawled out from troll boy.

Kyoto-sama: Greenstuff will be your friend! It will help hide those cuts to the shoulder and any other joins. Use water on your tools to keep the GS from sticking to them and allows smoother details 'n wutnots. I take it you now have access to all your choppy bitz and stuff that you weren't able to take to your Guyanan undersea empire?

If you're in need of any tools/modelling supplies, the best 'lil modelling store in Northern Virginia is "Granddad's Hobby Shop". Their webpage is pants, but they are one of the, if not the, most well stocked brick & mortar hobby shops I've ever walked into and staffed by a bunch of hardcore modellers. It is kinda hard to find, but if you have a car it's only 20 minutes or so from DC/Arlington. (note: you'll still need to go somewhere else for game stuff, I recommend Eagle & Empire down Rt. 1 "in" Alexandria near Ft. Belvoir).

Thanks, I'll have to check it out soon.

I have most of my tools and stuff but more than half my models are on their way to china. Just as well that I want to get into a new game then.

I should have a painted Space Emp soon along with some superheroes.

That figure has potential. I'm not sure if you want any more conversion suggestions but there's a few things I'd change:

1) He needs some different shoulder pads. I'd go with the roman looking pads you can easily make with curved plasticard (like Dave Taylors Custodes) or possibly plastic terminator pads.

2) I'd consider using a chaos pack and add eagle heads to it. Seems to me the loyalist pack is too clean compared to the figure.

Has anyone tried painting metalic gold over orange? Would that work better?

I didn't personally like how it turned out. I prefer to work up my golds from brass and then use flesh wash to tint it redish orange and shade the recesses. YMMV.

Kyoto-

That is a pretty sweet mini. I think you do have to figre out something with that shoulder. The blocky card just doesn't do it justice.

Personally, I am pants at GS but I would recommend that route.

Also, I think you need to add some detailing on the back of the hands and/or the forearm guards.

And I think you should also monkey around with the hilt of the sword. Doesn't look... imperial enough.

Keep up the work. And remember to post more  pics.

thanks for the idea with the roman shoulders winterman that sounds like the way to go.

pieman my plan for him and horus is to use the chaos deamon prince rules with no limit on the number of gifts. Horus then can buy chaos wargear and psy powers, the Emp can buy marine and Inquisition stuff.

In a lot of the fluff from the Horus Herasy they were big strong tough guys but by no means unkillable. They mention Horus saving the Emperor from Orks for example. If the 40k rules can accomidate greater demons, avatars and cthan (and titans) they can take the Emp and Horus.
