Ok, well ive been thinking about it for a while, an finally decided to plumpfor a 40k ork army, atarting with the basics, i got a heavy mutated warboss (A Fenril Biomech Horror) and thought for a moment, with the theme for my army set (Mutated Nurgle Boyz) I needed a center peice, besides the disgusting looking war boss, i needed what every ork general needs: A big armoured, armed, big, huge and very big tank. Now just ripping off a chaos lanraider seemed wrong, and paying extortionate amounts to forgeworld for a battlefortress also seemed very very wrong (Im on a tight budget) So, surveying my prospective supplies, my eyes fell upon an old set of Hexagon snap together terrain. My madness has borne terrible fruit, basically a 3 story tower, totally ramshackled, complete with ladders and hatches and a nice veiwing deck for my demon warboss,, only one thing missing....

The method of motion....

Im now landed with a desicion


a. Defilers legs, This sounds an interesting idea, about the right size and gives the chaosy feel

b. Sentinels legs, Cheap, cheerful but i think it may look rediculous

c. Rhino/Chimera hull with bolted on extra platforms


Advice please?

go with Defiler legs, but change some of the claws into feet or buzz saws or something like that

It sounds to me like you want to make something like

this leman russ / stompa.

 

I'm not a huge fan of the way the arms were done, but otherwise it is a fine model.

That Russ Stompa is great, and looks fairly easy to do.

interesting use of the hexagon kits; I've considered doing something similar with the CoD sprues. I think what you've done would look fine with big feet sticking out the bottom (i.e. legs invisible above the 'ankles') or a pair of big wide tracks.

I'd say go with the defiler.
crabby legs give good orky fun to work on and the chaos feel too.
and you also get twin autocannons to mount elsewhere the need be
