From my reading of the rules, it sounds like you have to use drop pods if you take them, while teleporting is optional;

"any ... terminator squad ... may be equiped with a drop pod. (snip) Such units remain in reserve and arrive by drop pod."  (P. 21)

It doesn't mention anything about having the option of deploying normally, although the rules for teleporting clearly uses the phrase "may start in reserve."

Since there are clearly some circumstances where you would want terminators to deploy normally (e.g. playing against nids/orks) this suggests drop pods may actually have a slight drawback, and not be such a no-brainer after all.

Another related query is that the Lysander "Teleport Assault" rule says;

"If an Imperial Fist army including Lysander elects to deploy its Terminators by Deep Strike..."

As the drop pod rules do not specifically state they deep strike, its seems you have to teleport in to use this special rule, which in turn prevents a Lysander wing using drop pods if they want to arrive together.

If I'm interpreting these correctly, it seems that the Lysander wing isn't such a no-brainer, and there may actually be a tactical reason to paint a terminator-heavy army something other than yellow!

I think he's just having a tactical realization and just wants confirmation that he's correct.

Lewzor, as far as I can tell you are correct in your assesment.
