How do you handle deployment with guard when deep striking would split the platoons deployment?  I've heard and seen it played a number of times where a single squad from the platoon deep-strikes while the rest of the platoon is deployed on the table.  The only relevant text I've found allows the platoon to deploy at different times if it's for light infantry infiltration, is there something I'm missing about the drop troops doctrine?

The drop troops doctrine specifically says any unit can be placed in reserve to drop. So you may deploy some of the units normally, and then choose to drop others.

You just have to roll for all of the ones in reserve with one roll per platoon.

Not quite right, Mauleed, unless I read what you wrote wrong.

You may indeed drop any unit. However, unlike the Light Infantry doctrine which had a FAQ answer to clear things up, the Drop Troops doctrine has nothing in its text to over-rule the 'deploy oneFOC choice at a time'.

Therefore, although you can drop part of a FOC, the remainder must either drop or walk on from Reserves (which, as Mauleed said, is all done with one roll per FOC choice).

For example, say an IG Infantry Platoon consists of 1 Command Squad, 2 Infantry Squads, and a Remnant Squad. If you wished to deepstrike the Remnant Squad you could (provided you had the doctrine, of course, and that the mission permitted deepstriking) but the whole Platoon would have to be placed in Reserve.

That's False Stu. The drop troop doctrine specifically says that you can place any unit in reserve to be dropped. That's a specific rule that over-rides the general deployment rule.

No FAQ is needed, as there isn't any ambiguity.

I agree that it is clear as a bell, since a unit is defined in the beginning of the BGB to mean a squad, not a force org chart selection.

You're absolutely right, my apologies. And to think I've been playing it wrong all this time. Oops.
