Before I can comment, what are your tactics? Also what armies did you fight against?

I pretty much did the classic phalanx, which I pushed forward in the table center during the course of my games. Nightbringer was placed out front on a flank, usually behind cover to start, and the scarabs were placed on their own behind cover in areas that vehicles would most likely approach. I was pretty much counting on the scarab disruption fields to give marine armies with land raiders pause to think. As for close combat, I figured Nightbringer and warriors that kept getting back up would take care of enemy troops easily enough. Once I had my opponents on the run, I'd break loose with the destroyers to run harrasment and take out vehicles across the table. The first army I faced was a 2 Land Raider Space Wolf army that I was pretty much able to decimate. The second army was Ultramarines, and once again I pretty much was able to dictate the game, although his scouts and Legion of the Damned gave me a bit of trouble in close combat. At this point I was leading in points going into my last game. The third game was against a bud of mine running a Terminator Deathwing army and it was pretty much a back and forth affair. He tried to FoD my units with his Librarian, but Necron leadership makes that a hard thing to succeed with. On two turns of trying, he only paniced one unit. This game came down to the last dice roll, which didn't quite break right for me. I plan on using this army list for the next few tournaments I'm in. It's been a very solid and reliable army list.

Hmm, It's good. But, I think 4X10 warriors, 2X5 destroyers and a destroyer lord with some counter assault will do a LOT better than the nightbringer will. He's so many points and can't protect your lines as well as a faster destroyer lord. Drop him, get an extra 8 warriors, 2 destroyers, and a destoryer lord with the phase shifter, warscythe and the orb. 2 orb lords make things a LOT easier. Especially one that can roll around with the destroyers if need be. Also, drop the veil on the foot-lord. He needs to stay by your warriors/immortals and protect them with the orb.

IE, my necron list from the last tournament I played in.

(I gave one lord gaze of flame because I had nothing better to spend 15 points on).

I like your list a lot, and use a varient of it with 12 destroyers in three squads with the destroyer lord in tow. Around here I run up against drop pod armies in the tournaments I've started going to and use Nightbringer to keep them at arms length. They start rethinking really quickly how close they want to get to my army with god boy sitting there. In fact my last opponent was one of the authors of the drop pod tactica in a recent White Dwarf and took second at a Seattle GT with pods,so I wanted to have something really special for him if he brought them. It turned into a helluva match with him using my list.

The nightbringer just makes me go "Yay, they're 350 points easier to phase out!" when I'm playing my drop pod list. I'll sacrifice a squad to him, and kill everything else.
When wouldn't you have a better list with a veil/orb lord? The orb makes your guys get back up from powerfists, and the veil gets you out of combat. Sure beats a guy killing 3 marines a turn in assault.

As you can see, I did have a lord with an orb and veil as well as Nightbringer. I can't tell you much more about this list then it does extremely well, and Nightbringer does a lot more than kill three guys a turn with the way I use him. At no point in anyone I've played with this list have I ever come close to phase out, and it works pretty well against pod armies.

Why wouldn't you rather have a monolith and another hundred points than the NB?
Or another Lord with an Orb and a bunch more necrons?
Maybe I'm missing something but, 5 attacks kills 2.8 space marines with S10 or what have you. Maybe a vehicle here or there with his shootie thingy.
For the price of the NB you can almost get a monolith and 5 more immortals. or 8 immortals and an orb lord.
If you like your list the way it is and like having the big cool centerpriece, that's fine. But unless you're using it to play mindgames with your opponents, any other 360 pts you could spend would be better than having one guy who doesn't count as necrons.

Gaze of death has, in my experience wiped out a lot more than three marines a turn more times than not. I've seen too many monoliths get popped with lucky shots to care about putting one on the table and giving up 235 points on the first turn in a tournament. Also, armies with troops of strength 3 three suffer from ethric tempest, usually setting them up for rapid fire during my shooting phase. I do like using different lists with wall to wall Necrons without god boy or a monolith for pick up games , and I can see some of your points. Sometimes I do use a monolith and have fun with that, also.Trust me, though, this list can be a pain to fight against if used correctly . As an aside, I picked up a favorite opponent trophy at this tournament and was complimented on not taking a monolith from almost everyone that saw the army.

I'm not saying your list isn't competitive or is sucky by any stretch of the imagination, so don't think that. I just think there's better ways to spend the points. Personally, I would buy a shedload of immortals instead. The 'lith, I don't think I would use any if I didn't use 2 or 3 (which would not make any friends ). But it looks like a fine list that will do well 99% of the time.
