I was thinking today about swapping my Rifleman Dreadnought for a third vindicator. I had originally gotten the Dreadnought for some protection against AV 10 skimmers (edlar, dark eldar) and protection against deep strikers on my main tank line. It has yet to perform in the games I have played (I have also yet to see an eldar/delfdar flying circus player either) and just feels out of place on my list. My opponents have been- mech IG, foot templars, nids, random BA lists, blob IG, foot eldar, deathwing land raiders, basically nothing for the autocannons to be any use except the chimeras (even then you need side)

Has anyone had experience with triple Vindicators? Devastating? overkill? Waste of points? Anyone use them or play against them?

I make use of lots of land speeder typhoons and rifleman dreads and I pray for opponents in tournaments that field lots of vindicators since I usually can start taking side shots on turn one or two and wreak all three pretty fast. 2-3 vindicators is leagues better than one but it wont give you a balanced list. Against lots of infantry you will wreak shop but against long range mobile shooting which is pretty common in a tournament your list might as well have 0 vindicators because thats what its going to feel like after turn 2.

I always run my Vindicators in a [][][][] formation with rhinos or my Land Raider protecting their side armor, so side armor shots are really a non issue until late game when I don't really care about them anymore. I also have TL MM Land speeders to protect my flanks as well.

I play a guy who runs Typhoons, and they are little more then an annoyance (albeit very hard to kill)

Even while playing competently in a box formation and trying to flank and harass with MM/HF speeders your in the same boat. Lots of long range shooting from mech IG/SM will shut you down but the extra vindicators nearly guarantees that one or two will get a shot off before going down. A str 10 template can at most wreak one vehicle or do one wound to a MC. This means heavy mech and heavy MC will beat you more often than not where as every one else will probably get blown apart by vindicators that they cant stop. Your list is terrifying to many armies but hardly balanced so weather or not you win has more to do with what your playing against rather then who your playing against.

While I love rifleman dreads, only one will be lackluster so you might as well play to the strengths of the rest of your list and take another vindi or go all out and drop the 3rd vindi/dread the 10 man scout squad, the power fists and the Libby and grab another landraider with TH/SS termies. That will turn your rock list into a brick make your box formation you got going even stronger on the opposite flank and give quite a few armies way too much to deal with. You wont be any stronger against the long range shooting from before but you will be even stronger against everything else. Just keep the suicide melta units away as much as possible.

Now your talking like the 3 vindicators would be my entire army. Its only 18% of my force. The main reason for taking 3 (or 2) is to do 3 things: force my opponent to bunch into cover where my flame weapons really shine, attract AT firepower off my rhinos/speeders/LR, and to deny FnP/multi wound cheese (TWC, Bikers,BA FnP ect)

Assuming the worse case scenario that I am fighting a parking-lot IG/SM and they roll first turn in a non DoW mission and unleash hell - the Vindicators are probably going to take the brunt of the shooting at front armor 13 while the rest of my army gets position.

about the only thing i could imagine you would have trouble with if you ran 3 vindis is tank IG or a fast army like DE or sometimes E.

The worst case scenario however doesn't change if you sub in or out one more vindi but against everything else you will be much stronger. You will have two landraiders with TH/SS termies two troops in rhinos, 2 vindis and 3 land speeders. Your opponents will be looking at a wall of side and front armor 14 with front armor 13 sandwiched in the middle. The extra termies will better take advantage of vulcans rules and I think you will have maximum protection from everything except suicide melta which your land speeders can help block/take care of.

Those types of armies are pretty rare at the games workshop I play at

DE probably aren't going to be rare anymore... They released this weekend. One of my buddies is already putting his stuff together. Plus they're the new hotness and everyone will have them LOL.

I would probably go for option C, get a second Rifelman by droping the fists and some scouts. Also drop the sige sheilds for dozer blades.

I like Tedururs suggestion....
I like Pairs of things as well...two Rifelmen dreads, and two Vindies sounds fun

(OT, whats the best way of making a rifelmen dread? do any of the Dreads come with Autocannons?)

What I'm wondering is, if your taking Vulkan, why are you taking riflemen, scouts, or vindis at all?

I built mine from normal dreads and the Aegis defence line. Buying the arms from FW is also a simple and rather cheap way.

Because even a Vulkan list need some long range and the Vindis works very well with the LR.

Aegis Defense line and the Regular dreadnought work well.

Vindis I have been running lately and i find they synergize with my list. They shoot up close like most of my army, force my opponent into cover where my flamers make short work of them, and take lots of antitank heat off my expensive Land Raider. Plus their str 10 ap 2 along with the null zone librarian can take down difficult targets like zoanthropes, nob bikers, seer council, TWC, BA FnP spam

Scouts are just an easy way to hold homefield objectives. They can scout and infiltrate on objectives, and get a 2+ cover when going to ground so are near immune to long range shooting. This forces my opponents to get close for flame or assault, where the rest of my army shines.

Even if in a Vulkan list, that needs in anycase a good long-range support, I'll drop all the Vindicators for a double rifle-Dreads + double AC/LCs Predators setup.

Almost for the same points you'll gain a lot of support long range fire for your line.

Vs sworms you're allready well equipped with the redeemer and the tacticals+land speeders flamers and vs armor it's better have 4 multi ST8/9 weapons vehicles than 2/3 mono ST10 weapon tanks.
Considering also the number of shots you'll can have each turn and the range of efficiency.. well, it's quite an easy choice for me.

Last but not least with this setup you'll forget the deviation dices...

Every molecule will be useful

3 vindicators is what I take in my chaos army, and an aegis defence line with quad gun. That way they have a 4+ save and some protection against flyers.
It always pissed people off. Used the siege shields and doors from spare rhino sprue to make the line, so I could block the front with shields, and sides of vindicators with rhino doors. The quad would then go into a corner.

Only in death does duty end..... Not for Khorne it doesn't

That out of new codex or old codex? The librarian entry makes it look old codex with the powers chosen, not randomized.

I am thinking about a blood angels list with 2 vindicators supported with a dark angels librarian with a jump pack, prescience and the 3'' 4++ save bubble.

i also plan to put the librarian in a unit of assault marines which could protect of of the sides of the vidindicators
