RE: T'Pau alpha strikes - I can't remember killing a LR on turn one but then I've not had one as a target yet in 8th. I do remember keeping one stunned for a whole game of 7th - frustrating for all parties involved.

Go on I dare you - fill it to the brim with multi-meltas using the amazing new chapter approved rules!

Laters.

Sorry I didn't reply to this before. The shades on the officer do make him look like Mr Eldritch seen above accompanied by the lovely Ms Morrison. I did name my SM Librarian after him..

Talk to the hand. I just checked and I didn't take any pics of shoulder pad where it is emblazoned. I have a RT model Psyker called Eldritch too, the OG version.

The inexplicable LR design rules you mean, The Phobos version of the L is 19 POWER whilst any variant is automatically 30 POWER, and there aren't that many options, The only 'good' one is the Terminus which is already in the Index. If we do that 2k team up Vs Mephistoned we should field my new one, provided I ever finish it...

Yo.

So I picked up a brush finally. It's my birthday today and I've a cold so I cleared the day and decided to try painting again. I was really missing my partner today so the distraction was good. I'm not really doing anything today but over the weekend I've a few guys coming over and there is a chance of a game too. I might even get my new board delivered. A possible game would be 2k with my SM vs Mephistoned's newly invigorated BA, the list I wrote for this included my Raider so a bit more effort on this was called for.

I did get a bit of space loot over Xmas too, reinforcements.

It is currently in a nearly completed state but needed the fancy bits doing. I decided on a Crux-Terminator Honours thingy..

It's pretty tricky to try and get them even............so I didn't bother...

This will do, started filling in the centre bit..

I washed the gold with Reikland and Argax and I did a highlight on the gold adding a bit od Mitheral to the gold base colour...The gem was pretty standard..

Next to this I did the traditional wonky free hand 'U'. I also added the machine spirit's name, Thunderchild, as I love War of the Worlds (especially the Jeff Wayne Version!, the 'Farewell Thunderchild' song can bring a tear to my eye). It adds to it's Xenos killing credentials.

The other side got some more prosaic detailing. The 3 is to denote the 3rd company it's attached to. The chevron denotes it's role on the battlefield, I am usually at a bit of a loss what to add on so I generally add it to SM vehicles. The last bit is just a pretend warning type thing.

I also got out most of my other cars to help keep them consistent(ish) over the years and changes in paints/techniques/ability/fashion.

That's all for now but the weathering and damage will come next and then it will be DONE. Yay, bit of a logjam on the desk this one but glad to have it so near completion after owning it for about 10 years. I'm not sure what to do next but have that IG dude lined up, the Termies and for some reason I've been finding myself staring at the pile of resin that is my Comtemptor too...

See you all soon.

xx

Happy Birthday!

LR is looking very sharp. Good luck with the game. Killing BA never gets old, but doesn’t quite hit the spot like purging xenos. You should check if there are any local to your corner of the galactic rim. Good to see you painting again.

Thanks dude. I've always had a thing for killing BA, I think it's all the special stuff they had over the years when Ultras had not a single special thingy. I think Tyrannic War Vets in Codex the 4th were the first Ultra specific unit. At least now we get great Chapter Tactics and stuff but I would still like a proper Ultras only unit.

The whole thread well done! Glad you like it all. Thanks!

Hades Breaching Drill? Oh right, Happy Birthday makes more sense. Thanks! I forgot to add these pics to yesterday's shots..

Finished the lights..

Also done is the top gunner.

Here's the nearly done pics..

I've added 3 different browns as drybrushed on muck. I've also had to washes of Reikland and Argax to add to the weathering.

Chipping has been added by brush and sponge..I wanted it to look pretty battered and old..

I think I will add more of the highlight blue to the edges of things and that flecking kind of look that people do now to break up some of the large panels..

Little warning sign thing..

So close to being done now, exciting times.

Hope you like!

Nice stuff.
Any reason you seem to have gone a bit harder on the weathering on the LR or is it the lighting, size of the model or some other magic?

No it is a bit more rough looking. I wanted it to look like it was very old and had been grinding along under heavy fire for most of that time. Its supposed to convey its toughness. Thank you for delivering my new board too! Its amazeballs. There is a small chance I will get to use it today, if so I will snap some pics. Xx

I’d expect more claw marks and acid burns from a LR attached to the 3rd. But I guess there are more xenos then just Nids that need a good scourging.

I think I do will have to check (it might have been one of the last batch to be found dried out). Thanks for all the kit, it will be very useful I'm sure.

SO I finished the Land Raider..

Classic 3/4 view. I've talked enough about the bits and pieces on here already, there aren't masses of changes since the last pics, some tidying up and adding of details, such as the little fleck-streaks.

BRUM. Little flecks can be seen here. I think it works enough, it's the first time I've got it to look ok (not done it much).

Breaks up the larger empty areas.

Not glued, if I decide I have to replace this with a MM I can.

LRs are known to have very aggressive machine spirits. You do what you have to do to keep them happy.

Makes me wonder what all the warnings are under that red triangle.

May contain Ultramarines
Contents under pressure
Do not aim at face.
etc...

Very nice work. You get that game in? Fresh paint needs to be baptized in the blood of your enemy. Or choke and die on it’s first outing. Which is the more likely result.

Thanks, I'm pleased with it. No didn't manage a game, it was my birthday week and so I deemed it a bit 'chaotic' to do a 2k game. I hope to do one soon however as I also took delivery of my new board, beautifully terraformed by Alex (crate of terrain too). So lots of christening to do.

Here's a shot of the Termies:

Sprayed black and then painted midnight blue and now in the process of being inked black. Basic stuff but it won't do itself (I checked). Drybrusing in 2 layers next. IG CC will pootle about too.

Thanks for your comments.

Yo.

Here's a tiny bit of progress of the Captain.

I decided I like the firing pistol position and the raised behind head sword arm..

I pinned his hand for extra stability and to facilitate changing the pistol over. I've cut the SM hand off the nice BP with skull and replaced it with a clenched IG fist, will need to sculpt a trigger back. Currently he's wielding Peitrov's Mk45, the Valhallan Relic Bolt Pistol (which means he acts as a pre nerf Commissar) but I may decide to change my Chapter tactics in the future. Then I'd probably go with a plasma pistol. But currently the Valhallan tactic's are a good(ish) match for my theme.

I'm not sure about the rear arms postion and may fiddle with it. I've chopped off the chainsword down the leg too and replaced it with single frag. I've chopped off his basing tab and built up little platforms to make him look the right height (like they do with Tom Cruise).

Here he is with his colleague. I think they will look good together.

Did a bit of drybrushing on the Termies too, so they are trickling along.

Hope you like and more soon.

xx

Thanks, it's fiddly as there are few arms not holding lasguns etc. I think it works well enough to get away with.

dsteingass wrote:I've got a few of those OG Officers too! I havent gotten around to finishing. I cant wait to see yours!

Thanks, there is a certain charm about these guys and I've wanted an IG army since I saw them back then, so there's a nostalgia to it all as well.

Finally managing to get some more super glue, I've pushed on with building him a bit more. After spending a few hours on him I've basically got him looking the same but pinned.

Knowing the sword will be snap off city I've very carefully drilled through this bolt pistol hand. The smallest (surviving) bit I had was just the right size not to bust though the fist. I managed to drill into the sword as well.

The original pommel (kind of and eagle head thing) vanished off my paint station, there will be no finding that. So I cut off a SM CS pommel instead. The old one may have been too big anyway. I also managed to drill into it a tiny bit.

I drilled his arm pin. Much simpler after all this micro drilling. I got the angle wrong. I then had to pull out the pin after I'd glued it. Bleh.

Sword waving arm. Need to GS under it to tidy up the join once the glue has gone off.

The pistol arm has had the pinned hand glued on and a sleeve cuff added to match the other arm.

Once this is set in place I can tidy up the joins a bit. Frag is glued in place now, replacing the hacked off chainsword.

I also pulled him off (oh er) his base and added another platform under his left foot (not pictured) as I think he sunk a bit when the last lot was setting. Next is just the tidy ups and adding his Captain bars to his arm (like the sarges have), then we can undercoat. The paint job will be pretty quick which is nice.

I have also been plodding along with the Termies so more on them soon. I've a bit of time off over next week as thing is going to his Gran's to give me a break (hopefully not a psychotic one) and I hope to get a game (stew) on. Means I get to bust out my new board too.

Always nice to see both an entirely new model for your guard and a bit of classic conversion work. He's going to look great. You probably mentioned this up the thread but who's he in charge of?

Re a game. What are you thinking scenario wise? Maybe an eternal waaaarrg off the new chapter approved?

Thanks, he's the 2IC for my Infantry Company. The other officer is generally the Warlord as he's obviously more important as he doesn't have a weapon drawn. This guy tends to run along at the front herding Conscripts Regulars in a blob with flamers, his magic Bolt Pistol ensuring no more than one can rout a round. So he's a Captain too but with less seniority or something (Captain 2nd Class?). This used to be the Platoon Commanders role but now it's generally better to just take 2 CCS as they cost only slightly more and are fightier, orderier and fill up one of the 3 HQ slots you need to fill.

Yeah I was thinking a random mission from CA.

Nevelon wrote:Some pretty nice conversion work there. And in metal as well, no small feat! Kids these days with their plastic and soft resin don’t know the pain.

Bloody Millennials, worst thing they had was Finecast. Summer children. Saying that I still refuse to own any FC.

I'm toying with the idea of adding something hanging down to cover the sword arms armpit gap. Thinking maybe some braid loops (pretty hard to GS convincingly) or a pelisse (see braid) or maybe a fur stoal thing like the commie Lord (possibly with cloak).

This guy (still probably my fav IG model). Maybe even a shabraque kind of tiger skin over a shoulder (though I would get gak from PETA).

Thoughts?

I was planning to do a bit this am but my son was selfishly ill overnight so is having today off. He should be ok for tomorrow hopefully.

He won't be painted by then (probably) still working through the Termies (pics soon, they look like arse right now). We were thinking of 2k UM vs BA (good old red vs blue). MLCS gets to slum it and play Marines, Mephistoned gets lots of points to smash about his new Codex (which as it's new we are allowed to complain about it being OP) and I get to use SM not against T'pau and a lot of points which justifies busting out my newly finished Land Raider. Do you want to try and arrange a game? maybe Tuesday-Wednesday? I could paint that Captain by then! xx

For braid, what about some thin wire twisted together? Or actually braided if you get some thin enough. Greenstuffing epaulettes to run them through on the shoulder might not be that hard.

There is a lot of space under the arm, what about a lanyard?
http://photobucket.com/gallery/user/GrantRCanada/media/bWVkaWFJZDo1NDgwNzc2MQ==/?ref=
Picture wire, guitar wire or kitchen string soaked in PVA are all good options.

Also, i've found Finecast okay to work with as long as your cast is okay in the first place.
It's the durability as a playing piece that I have a real problem with.

Good Idea but hard to get wire THAT fine, and GS malleability might be more useful, squeezing in place etc.

I like that idea but feel it would be too 'snappy'..FC can be ok but I've seen so many floppy force staves/swords etc it really puts me off.

I've had a bit of time off from thing and have managed to get a bit done. I also managed to play my first 2k game, UM vs BA and got to drive about with the Raider which was unsurprisingly killed on turn 1, at least I went first so got to fire it once, it caused 4 wounds.

So I carried on with this guy..I've added a dagger to his hip and tidied under the arm (I went back and got the finger print off later).

Just a basic Cadian knife to add a bit of bulk to that area of the model, there is a strap not shown well in this pic.

I tried out various things using bluetack to see how they looked and plumped for a braid type of thing..

I ended up with this..kind of a small star medal to the right with a braid linking it back to a coil over his shoulder, there is a tassel coming down on the other end..not a great pic but it won't really show till the painting anyway..

He's undercoated but I'm still in the process of painting my 2nd Termie squad. More on these guys next time.

Hope you like the conversion, it became more involved than planned (as per usual) but I think it's ok.

Yeah me too!

I did take a few bad quality pics for mt own amusement, though they do show the new board off a bit so are probably worth posting. They are bad snaps really as the light was too low for my camera, MLCS took a few pics, I don't know if they are any better.

Whole table, Mephistoned (one time poster one here) was my opponent and he doesn't really paint so his army (so it always looks like balls). He was also 3 hours late and then complained we didn't get to finish. Summerchild.

Tacticools deploy and hose down some Death Co. with lovely bolter fire.

Sternguard climb out of the wreckage of the Raider (feth you Stormraven)..

Hero party comprised of Captain, Lieutenant (played here by another Captain of mine, model pending) and Libby advance on the Sangy Guard and Chappy (who failed their turn 1 charges LOL)...

Overall we lost with some sucky rolling and the natural disinclination to grab the 3 central objectives when there's a BA army in the way. Still it was fun and I got to run about with some new stuff as well as hack dudes up with a Relic blade. So we were all winners. Next time I will pick a mission where being camped in vehicles waiting for a rain of men is a bonus.

Termies are progressing nicely and I will do some pics for them next.

xx
