I don't, LegoBurner and Yak do. It's hosted on Dakka servers that do other Dakka-ey tasks (not on a Minecraft hosting company). This is the main reason we don't run mods, don't want any wayward or badly coded mods interfering with important Dakka operations.

Even so, I'd also like to know how much the average is..

450 pages!

Well I dunno. But I'd imaging the costs of running server(s) for a large image-heavy forum website are a bit different to the costs of running a Minecraft server (different requirements, optimizations etc).

For example, you might not mind if your Minecraft server goes down every night for an hour at 5am if it's only you and your friends playing and you're usually in bed around that time, but a website host usually wants a (more expensive) more reliable uptime.

Also the Dakka forum (currently) says "There are 6,577 online users". Yes those aren't constant connections required by a Minecraft server, but they will be frequent and it's a lot more overhead than a 20 person Minecraft server.

tl;dr; The Dakka Minecraft server is probably far more expensive than regular Minecraft servers, but it's because it does other tasks. You'd be better off asking another server admin that does use Minecraft specific hosting.

It'd also be balanced out with advertising, DCMs, etc.

I think most normal servers would start at about $3-5k, not MC of course. Look around it'll probably only be something like $~100 per year, probably even less, to get from the companies that are undoubtedly out there providing such service. Figures are rough guesses, can't be bothered with the research.

Then perhaps you can explain the "Ender Cactus" sign? Screenshots if it's worth it.

Oh, yeah, that IS my village, because I placed that sign.

Basically, an Enderman placed a cactus there. Next to a wall. Hence the 'unatural' part.

Next time I'm on the server I'll get screenshots for ye.

Actually, it is kinda funny as there were 2 endermen, both holding cacti. 1 placed it down infront of him and commited suiced, the other placed it next to the wall before teleporting off

No, farlands is a place in minecraft that takes about 820 hours of solid walking to get there. When you do, it lags like gak and generates oddly; the world is being stretched to it's limit. It begins at about 12550820 blocks out. At 30000000 blocks out chunks still generate, but they're false. You fall straight through them, as if they weren't there. Walking up to the farlands generates so much lag, more often than not Minecraft just decides to die right there and then from calculation overload. Side effects of the farlands are:
Jumpy or stuttering movement of the map. This begins to occur at about +/- 500000, but it's almost unnoticeable. Items on the ground will fail to update "on time", making them seem as if they travel alongside you.
Severe lag and framerate drop. In 1.6 the average was 2fps. I tested it. Not a good idea. It corrupted minecraft after crashing twice.
Falling sand and gravel entities from the farland's generation worsen lag.
Mob's pathfinding will begin to fail. This is worse than you think.
Terrain that looks so wierd it's alien.
But it is interesting to note lag does not really occur in the nether farlands. So you can wander round there without much trouble. And ghasts are nearly impossible to find due to cramped space. But now they crash minecraft. Backdate and single player commands if you want to have a look.
The Skylands is a planned dimension. Notch hinted he may still add it. You only visit it in your dreams, and when you die there you wake up. So you can throw yourself off the side, to get back to the overworld (normal dimension). There's some prototype coding in beta 1.6 and 1.7, so you can use some mods to get there.
Here's a pic of the farlands before beta 1.8.

Quote:
Upon reaching the farlands the game becomes almost completely unplayable, due to the sheer amount of lag generated by the calculations minecraft has to perform at this point. This is usually caused by an incredibly high mob spawn rate, and as another side effect of the farlands is floating point integer delays and errors, their pathfinding becomes much more erratic.
If this doesn't convince you going to the farlands is a VERY BAD IDEA, I don't know what will. Still, a race to 1,000,000 or so would be fun.

While we're copy/pasting the wiki in here, I'll do it too

In 1.8, instead of the Far Lands starting to generate at 12,550,820 meters from the center of the map, the playable area abruptly ends at 30,000,000 meters

I didn't copy paste. I've read the farlands about 100 times. Granted, it only did this before beta 1.8, but it still lags. Try it with spc.

Preemptive cat deployment.

Continuing to copy the wiki.
The ability to dye leather armor different colors.[55]
16,777,216 potential colors.
Put dyes and armor in the crafting grid to apply different dyes.
Item tooltip will then display "Dyed" in the right color.
Use a cauldron to wash armor [56].
Wolf collars will be dyable.[57]
Buttons will be activated by arrows [58].
Added Corner Stairs.

Would have liked it to be all types of armour, but I guess leather makes sense. Also cauldrons have a use now besides making smaller compact sinks/toilets.

I notice you've been updating the map more often. Next time you update, that road there will be finished and there will be cows and some more watchtowers around my area Well at least one, might be a second depending on how long you wait before updating.

But give me a warning first so I can have it prepared BEFORE you get here.

That's actually a misnomer. Jeb said he was working on them but said "not sure about this" because of how they reacted when there were 3 or more stairs around them.

I'd say they're "being considered" not "added"

Trying to join the server, but it gives me a "failed to login: error" thing.

Previously it was giving me an error which was a link to the log-in server It think, they might be having problems there?

Somehow, that figures.

And since my lappy's 1.5ghz single core processor can't handle running an internal minecraft server very well, I actually run smoother on multi than single player heh.
