Would it be a accurate (enough) reconstruction, or would people be open to say adding their own houses (in the same style) amongst the existing ones, or perhaps as a side district? Youknow, just incase interest wavers a bit or whatever. =P

I've just made a minecart with a furnace in it a easy way for travel and smelting

a hive city would be so ridiculously gigantic, it's not even worth considering as a valid project unless you're downscaling it a ton.

Thatch roofs aren't yellow. Best bet would be pale planks.

What planks are pale in standard minecraft?

Also, this is still larger than I think a lot of you are realizing. See those houses in the image? All the 'little' ones? Those are each about the size of half a Suburbia plot.

Nah, I see thatch houses pretty much every day. Birch works for newer houses, oak for older.

regular wood looks better for thatched roofs, judging by that picture.

they seem to be darker the higher up they are, which I suppose makes sense seeing as I'd guess the houses would start at the top of the hill and as the population increased, more houses were built lower down, so the older (higher up) ones would be darker.

A bit of a stupid answer but what about rails? As they can go diagonal and have wood on them?

After some research and playing around in creative mode, building the Hall of Meduseld requires an area of around 50 by 75 blocks, in order to retain some semblance to the design from the movies. Really not a hard build so long as the base is built first on a hill. The rest of the homes could be built on a personal preference basis and then the curtain wall built around that.

hmm, looks good...
we'll have to do a bit of terraforming to make the hill less L-shaped and more rounded, but other than that, a plausible location. I don't know how big meduseld would be by comparison, though...
