What the hecks that giant sandstone tower for?

*shrug* Kind of an eye sore. Just saying.

It's just a regular Sand tower. It's on the future site of Grey Templar's Fortress, according to a sign that was there before I sliced the top of the mountain off. So I expect that he'll soon take out the Sandstone base, which has torches underneath it already, to make the whole thing come tumbling down.

I'm disappointed in the tower really and I wasn't even going for anything 'good'. I should have put more gravel in the tower, because without markers (or 3D vision) you can't really see the scale from the bottom.

But it has a ring of cobblestone around the top.

That's gravel.

Its Warmachine inspired. Although it does have a Stargate vibe to it too.

I think you've inspired my Nether Portal shape though.

Don't listen to this guy, he says he knows minecraft law. I asked if the top layer of sand would fall and he just said "maybe" then charged me 5 diamonds, so I left.

Having only just realized maps can go on walls thanks to item frame I would like to ask if anyone has any suggestions of places on the Dakka Map that I should make in game maps of to display in my home (soon to include a 'map room') These can include nice areas of terrain, cool builds etc

I intend one day to try and map the whole of the Dakka map (the visible one Darkinnit has in his signature) although not before the next update so I don't pregenerate all the terrain that could include new stone types

I've already figured out how to use multiple maps to make a larger looking map on the wall, so that won't be an issue. I'm just trying to figure out what parts of the world are worth mapping out in the short term

Keep in mind hta maps won't update if the map is too far away from the changed portion.

The "Map" item of Minecraft automatically updates if you're close enough to the location that was changed. But not if you're too far away.

I had mixed feelings on the last map update. For one, it was nice that you'd never make a map that overlapped with another, but then again they don't show nearly as much terrain as they used to.

My one gripe I still have with them is that in order to see enough area to be useful your are using up half your inventory space. Hopefully eventually they'll add a "map" slot to the gear you can wear so you could carrying around an "almost" mini-map. So you'd have a map in the HUD if you had a map of the area in your map slot kinda thing.

Its a problem just disencourage people from exploring currently unless if it is in their area.

I'll tell you, when ever I play vanilla single player I inevitably lose my first house eventually unless I write the coordinates down or stay within a few dozen chunks.

Our Dakka Minecraft map is probably the reason I haven't gotten lost yet.

I'd advise staying well away from anywhere there is any kind of construction and/or signage. The nether is quite big enough to mine without being anywhere near someone else's territory. Might not be an issue for some, but others might find it an imposition.

Yeah, there should be a fair bit in the Mountain Crown storage room (straight out of the portal) it has its own chest so you shouldn't need to search for long to find it.

Sadly he had to take the temple of maps down because of the massive amount of lag it caused. Shame because it looked amazing ... and thoroughly useful.

As long as you leave a solid path from the portal to the East Tunnel Path (pending), feel free to completely strip mine all around my portal. I'm planning on eventually setting up my Netherside as an extension of the Mesa anyways. If you want to leave the netherwrack in chests too, I'll end up smelting that up into the brick that I'll need to work on the path anyways.

I currently don't have anything in particular that I want the quarts for, though I wouldn't mind a little kickback if you find an especially good amount of the stuff.

And if you'd want, you could bucket any lava you find into some pools for later use in Obsidian farming or making other Portals.
