For those on phones/tablets, it can be more fiddly to navigate to the "Find" option.

What are you going to put in the dirt in the middle? A monument? A flaming pyre? A garden?

How about getting any old and worn weapons from storage and put them in item frames around the hall.

Put some banners made of wool hanging from the walls. Or even hang them from the roof, maybe with fence posts at the top so it looks like it's hanging from rope. Maybe even get some other players banners, like Cantium's EX FERRO VIS, which google translate says means "from steel force"
Spoiler:

Place a long dining table in there, just like the mead halls.

Wrangle and name tag a golden zombie and put it into a cage. Tell people how it was once an Old King, a Great Warrior or a Powerful Enemy that has been laid low. I like the thought that there used to be an old Kingdom on the site of your fortress, then you came along, slew the previous ruler and imprisoned all the villagers.

Speaking of dead warriors. You could put a chest beneath one of the weapon plaques and fill the chest with bones in a pattern with some old armour in there as well. Maybe even with an underhall if you want to take it a bit further.

Good idea.

I will wait for armor stands and banners. That might complete the build even more.

Why wait? We have no idea how long it will be till 1.8 comes out. It could be 1 month, it could be 9. Might as well fill that empty white hall now. Those banners/stands are only 2 blocks big, you don't even need to save space for them, there will be plenty left.

Unless you really just intend to fill the hall with small banners and armour stands...

They are fallen hero statues. The point is that the banners represent where they came from and who they were. So an armor and a banner.

I know, well, I guessed. But that still leaves a lot of wall space. Are you going to put up a lot of mannequins on higher shelves, fill it with something else of leave the higher walls bare? There's a limit on how many ways you can mix armor to look nice.

Here, I got started for you:

Mate I get your trying to help but. I already have planned out the building from top to bottom. There are lots of ideas I do not share, until they are completed. Such as the door frames and the way I do certain things. I am planing on building a stone statue there instead of just leaving it blank. And windows of course to bring in some light to the hall. I am just planning out the details and using my expertise in building floor plans along the way.

You asked for suggestions though ... seems a bit unfair to say "I have a grand master plan that I'm not telling you about" after you've asked for help.

Well I originally wanted an idea for a statue type of idea. The statues themselves were going to be something else. I mean my major thing is how would i shape it. Should I do it cathederal like all that. I still have to do it in my style and the playstyle that fits me so, I will have to make it look interesting and dynamic. I mean you can see with the towers that those were attempts at making a dynamic structure.

I might take suggestions but I might not, Sorry i was rude, I had just woken up from a terrible. TERRIBLE hotel bed. And woke up quite cranky at the world for giving me a terrible hotel to stay in before I move into my apartment.

But yes I will take suggestions as is. I have a certain plan out, but it is too early for me to take them as the buildings outside is not even close to being complete

As I plan on adding windows and trying to add giant windows to make it less blocky. How I do that I have no idea.

Gothic. Arches, that is. Use upside-down stairs on ether side of a 2 wide window, or a 3 wide window with a built in arch at the top.

One of the problems that makes everything so blocky in minecraft is that people have a tendancy to build either laterally or cubically- either making things long and low, or building them so they have similar dimensions up and sideways. However, if you build further up than you do sideways, it tends to give a more grand or graceful look to your construction.

Ah, so what you have done is specify a specific category of suggestions.

So would you suggest making the building taller? So that way it is larger and more grander?

I will be using emerald in the build to spice it up.

its a bit hard to see but I use a combination of arches and inset crenellations to add some depth to my otherwise flat structure. also throwing in another material type can help you to create some different visuals.

I think it's more about the proportions than just the size. You can also use false-perspective to make a build narrower at the top than it is at the bottom (with smaller but similarly-shaped features) to make a structure look taller than it actually is. Real world cathedrals quite often use this trick to enhance the sense of height both inside and out.

Hmm. Could I use an example of this. I built my building on a hill and gave the impression it was tall.

Hey - would anyone wanna drop off some wool at this location > https://www.darkinnit.com/newdakkamap/#/1309/64/-4506/-1/0/0? I really need a bed and there aren't any sheep around my area. Suppose I could just get some wool whenever I fall to my death and respawn at my old base, lol.

Looks like the closest is the Jungle portal at https://www.darkinnit.com/newdakkamap/#/997/64/-4158/-2/0/0 just off the North corridor at https://www.darkinnit.com/newdakkamap/#/14/64/-522/-2/1/0

Request for materials:

I'm making a community portal building at https://www.darkinnit.com/newdakkamap/#/-3796/64/-5572/max/0/0 and would really appreciate any spare quartz folks have lying around. I've blown pretty much my entire (not large) supply on it and although I'm only using it for "trim" it's amazing how fast I go through the stuff.

This is for the public mesa quarry, portal is signposted from the end of the North Branch of the Nether hub.

You can take all of mine. At the end of North Tunnel there should be a chest with about 75 blocks worth of quartz. So not much, but if you don't end up using it all you can take the rest, as thanks. Also the Stone and Bricks, you can use that as well if you want.

I just want to make people aware that I won't update the server immediately to 1.8 as soon as it's out on Tuesday. Although their use of snapshots and pre-releases has done a lot to help find major bugs before release, there's often still something that doesn't show up until much vaster numbers of people are playing it.

Mojang are releasing it on a Tuesday for this same reason, so they have most of the rest of the week to fix any issues that pop up. Whether there are any problems or not, the new update should hopefully be nice and stable by Friday evening (whether it is 1.8 or 1.8.2 or 1.8.11 by then)

So I will aim to update the server either Friday evening or early Saturday morning next week.
