Got dirt?

Edit:

Ok, hang on might need to expand on that. Heh, ah, anyone have any dirt to spare? Youknow, so I can give my avatar thingy some sort of mud bath for its pores and such? I already have some cacti spare as a stand in for the cucumber.

I'm afraid I have something of a dirt shortage at the moment, just finished a big (but largely invisible) project that took up all my stocks.

I've got some spare. Dirt's one of the things I don't use much of, though I've gone through a bit of it lately- and I'm always digging up more that I don't need. If you want to come by, the middle chest in my basement (where the portal comes out) should be relatively full.

Heh, I was pocketing dirt from you previously, but I wound up not being able find any more about your place. Well I mean in so much as I could find without properly searching. I'll swing around again tonight ...if you super promise that you cleared out the slime zoo.

Darkinnit you and Mojang are liars. There's six people on the server right now, but the player thingy and the launcher read zero. Liars I tells ya, and you certainly won't be being send my two million dollars any time soon.

Ah yeah, just an FYI that's probably know about, but being a bothersome old ditty is kind of my thing.

Huh? Unless I'm missing something the graph here shows 6 people online around the time you posted:
https://www.darkinnit.com/players.html

Try a CTRL+Refresh if your browser is "helpfully" caching the graph image.

No idea about the launcher.

Well, it shows 5 people at the rough time you posted, but the graph only polls every five minutes, so someone might have stepped out at that precise moment.

CTRL + Refresh sorted out the graph, but I wonder why the Launcher wasn't showing the correct values. Hmn, odd.

I'll pick up the dirt whenever I'm next on Shadow Captain Edithae (...how do you type that out every time you login), ah, though I've kind of sort of decided to excavate most of the dirt from the biome I'm currently in for ...reason, so I don't know if there'll be a need for it. Free crap's free crap though. =P

Could you post a link to the location on the map? Be aware that the overviewer coordinates are synchronized with the game itself and do not match up.

So my work on the community mine is going well and I decided to build for the lulz a Jarl House. It took me two hours to build it.

Well I just got whitelisted and hopped on for a bit. That Dakka sign is huge, holy crap. Was tempted to jump off the top of it but I wasn't confident in my ability to hit water on the way down.

Gonna try to find a place that's relatively empty to hole up in, but after studying the map it's hard to find a spot that's far enough away from other players.

Anyone mind if I claim this spot? Someone has started building on the same land directly west of there, but I think I'm far enough away. I'm pretty sure I'm out of visual range anyway, guess I just need to be careful mining.

Sure, the owner of that place has given it up to someone else but I don't think they took it. The blocky cobblestone structure has been there for ages.

My computer died on me right as I started logging back on. I haven't been able to play on my laptop, so it will be a long time before I can play again. You can have it. Should be some stuff in a chest in the cobble structure

The cobble has recently been replaced with brick, I've finally been able to get on here and there. 4oursword didn't want it after all, but I don't care if you build around there. I might be in and out, but I won't be mining or anything disruptive.

Bear in mind the map player locations (and signs and beds) are currently bugged and rotated 90 degrees to the left around 0,0. So the player locations on the map are incorrect. Best way to find unoccupied land at the moment is just to look for a lack of structures etc.

Is anyone up for making a full on minecraft map similar to mindcrack?

Anyone wanna be the Dakka's Official Minecraft Explorer?

I feel like we need a community project....

Anyone up for it?

You know to at least have some community things going on? Like a death games basically or a community project like making spawn awesome? Having statues of Dakka Dakka's Heroes. Or just do stuff together to promote a more community environment?

Anyone in?

I have set up the community mine. So hopefully people come to visit it.

Different servers have different feels to them. KFPerin's server (the first I was ever on) had people all spread out, but what kept on happening was one person found a neat spot to build, made their house, constructed an extension of the server-wide pathway/roadway system, then suddenly a whole town would spring up, when everyone went to build their own house there.

Then someone tired of that town would move somewhere else, build a house, build a path, then another town springs up as everyone abandons their previous house.

It was very cyclic and sprawling and nomadic, and it just happened. There was a PVP world (which was pretty cool) as well, where people built more 'dangerous' bases.

Then there's other servers which are more adventerous, and others which are less- for example, MindCrap is all about cooperative building of a single 'city' area- though it's only 3 people, making that a little easier. Direwolf's server (or whoevers) tends to be about people building fancy bases that are designed around resource accumulation/showing off, and the upkeep and progression of personal power- with a network of portals or link books so folks can do occasional tours and bum stuff off other people. Hermitcraft is the most similar to ours, where people find their 'area' and build there, but it has the Hermiton towns (which are essentially showcases of building talent- people don't really live there, I think) which work as a market hub for resource trading, and there's the supermassive community projects like the Iron Foundry. Attack of the B-Team is all about pranking people and making jokes/playing roles.

DakkaDakkaCraft has a dozen people who do megabuilds in Survival. Honestly, a lot of our stuff is super impressive in its own right, even (or especially) compared to what you generally see on YouTube or other servers- we regularly run out of Cobblestone, we build so big. But things like Chasmholm, Ma55sterFett's caverns, Abso's cathedral(s), the (increasingly unsuitably named) Grey Mesa, the Titans, the Manor, Dark's Castle and half a dozen other locations and builds that are easily spotted at max distance on the map are sort of a feature of our server. Builds that get people to go 'Wow' when they see them- and we have the Nether Network for travel when we want to visit others. But I don't think we're a 'teambuild' sort of server.

By all means, go ahead and start on a 'community project' if you want- but I guarantee that, even if there's some early interest, after actual groundbreaking there's only going to be one, or maybe two people actually working on it. That's not a bad thing, but I think it's how our server is.

What we [i]could[/li] do as a 'community' thing, would be to organize a massive tour. Figure out a list of the major sightseeing locations and organize a time/day when a lot of people can be on- then we start at Spawn (loaded up with foodstuffs) and travel as a group from place to place.

I'm all for being part of a community project. My problem isn't so much enthusiasm (which I never have much of for anything), it's more that no one has neither a plan nor goal.

If I could get more instructions than:
"I'm sure you know what to do"
or
"build an arena here"
then I might actually start stomping around on build sites and do some construction. Heck, if you don't want to do that, just put some markers down and give me an area you want to level or tell me what resources you you want the most. I've got a cobblestone farm that I use while doing other stuff on the computer so that shouldn't be much of a problem. Any common resource can be requested.

Even just giving me a picture of what someone else made can make a lot of difference for me. Though I guess I should mention I prefer Style over Scale, which makes the jobs seem easier to finish in the long run.

Just, you know, give me confidence that you have a vision or something and I'll do my part.

Hmm, so, yeah, was there anything you had in mind or was this just a passing thought?

Otherwise I might just do what Shadow Captain Edithae made me think and make the White House out of White Clay (even though it's slightly pink) and rig it with dynamite... that's not offensive is it? I don't want to get banned...
