You can do it, place a chest by the entrance in case someone dies you can put their stuff there.

You want some decent armour and when they lock onto you you either need to hurt them or hide behind something to break the lock. Avoid approaching them in a corridor with no where to hide as well. I learnt that the painful way.

Basically what has been said. Personally I would not go after them unless I have diamond armor.

Also who was the person that was building the etho mob spawner?

bring doors, block the open areas between the rooms and block the long hallways into segments. you need to get out of LOS for them to not shoot you

Doors for sure help. Also Leaves help soak up rooms till you find sponge.

1, is there a way to look at old Dakka maps?

2 could you do a zombie check around spawn? I can't go within a hundred blocks of spawn without tremendous lag

Well, do to real life responsibilities I have not been able to log on in quite some time, and cannot foresee being able to do anything meaningful in the near future. anybody who wants to loot my place (about x4000 z4000) feel free to do so.

Hmn, was it a coincidence that my home on the new server's in the exact position it was on the previous one? I thought I just picked any old savanna, or well Darkinnit did at least.

It was the sheer quantity of animals at spawn that was causing the lag.

Someone had bred 166 pigs and 350 chickens. 350 chickens all laying eggs also means 350 egg item drops on the ground.

I've culled them down to more reasonable numbers now. Spawn should be fine to visit without lag.

The last time I was there there was so many pigs I had to kill a good few just so I could go in without them all running out the door... I don't think I fed many though (I was there more for the cows), so unless someone else was there after me the issue was actually worse. 0.0

Breeding gives a large amount of XP, so that could be the reasoning behind it. I'd have killed the mobs myself but the lag was THAT BAD.

I must say a very impressive server you have built, lot of diffrent things n buildings scattered about.

All those animals at Spawn were probably mostly me. Sorry. I would often go inside the chicken pen, pick up a stack to roast then bombard them with the eggs I picked up. I guess that resulted in making more than I collected. I realize it got to the point where they were so packed in it would be impossible to count them even if you had a screenshot.

But 150 pigs? I thought it was more like 50, even though I think 20 is a better number. I usually feed them then slay a bunch of the adults.

EDIT: Speaking of lag. I decided to visit this place since it's so close to the White House I'm building, but the moment I walk past the sign here that says "speak friend and enter" it starts to slow down immensely. I can walk back and forth and the speed will go up and down. Speaking 'friend' does not help, unless I need to say it in Elvish or some such.

I guess dark already solved that problem, but it was the animals that were generating the lag. There were so many chickens, my god...I just jumped in there and started swinging, came out with a full stack of chicken and barely made a dent in their numbers. Also my inventory space was filled entirely with eggs.

I do. I was the one who coloured the sheep and I tried to make at least 2 of each colour. Someone else came along and made extras though.

there was 5 missing colors when I got there a little bit ago. I bred the missing colors so you're back to two of every color. Can we make pens and separate them by color? and get at least 5 of every color?

It's not like that any more. It's a bit of a mess. some colors are missing, and for some there is only one. Probably because of people breeding then killing for xp or something.

Maybe go for the way the old server had it, with a number of different pens for each different colour. Having one or two of a colour's hardly efficient if you're trying to collect a load of the same block (though in that regard you may want to just make your own sheep pen at home).

Making some pens was my plan, possibly multi-level if we want to save space.

This is what the old one looked like if that's anything to go by. I mean you could have a pen for every colour, but that might be excessive. That one just had the main colours in it instead (it may have been put together before the fancier dyes were even implemented, but I don't know whenever that was).
