I have a bunch of free games all over my GOG account that I grabbed, because they were free, but never played.
So I am now going through Beneath a Steel Sky.

Friend gifted me a copy of Assassin’s Creed: odyssey, which I put a few hours into last night. I had tried one game in the series years ago on the x-box, but my WASD old school keyboarder just could not get the controller to work. Enjoying this one a lot more on my native PC.

Doing another playthrough of Spider-Man on the PlayStation.
Such a terrific game. Mechanically similar to the Batman Arkham games, yes. But boy does this elevate it with the traversal, and Spidey being DPS over Tanking. Mucking around with gadgets also creates some crazy quick fights!

Played Silver Bayonet yesterday.
https://www.goonhammer.com/goonhammer-historicals-the-silver-bayonet-review/
We have enough club terrain to make a great table for this.
As a skirmish game it was fine, and actually I am tempted to get my flintloque models out of storage for giggles.
The game does seem quite swingy. With defence values of 13/14 and typically -2 or -1 to hit (sometimes -3), hitting meant rolling big on 2D10. With one of the dice being the damage dice it seemed getting hit means losing most or all of your typically 10 health.

I hate these non-games so much!!!!
Oh menu screen. Another menu screen. Repetitive music that doesn't match what's going on! A stupid card game you have to play over and over to progress the main storyline.
Sorry, I can't save the world but I have to play a fething mindless card game for 4 hours first!

Reminds me of the SpoonyOne review of final fantasy 8. Pretty good stuff before he kept taking down his videos, putting them back up for more money and then spiraling into insanity and obscurity.

Swapped to RE9 realizing I haven't really played one of these games since 5 after I dropped 6 a few hours in. I've been meaning to go back to 7/8 but really second guessing that after finding myself really not enjoying Grace until I flipped to 3rd person.
Working on the quartz section right now and really loving that point when you get settled into a save room and start plotting routes to explore and what you need to take with you and the like. This section really has the survival vibes down.

I haven't played a resident evil since 6 sadly but i will say from streamers i've seen 9 has two very different styles of gameplay. You have the whimpering, stuttering, fumbling of Grace which is a mixture of Ashley from re4 and Ethan from re7 and then you have Leon which is more action oriented in the old hollywood action movie style. It's like going from the hunted to the hunter.
Edit:
Apparently there's loads of jokes and memes being made of the differences.

Just about done with Resident Evil Re9uiem, going to do one more playthrough to see if I can find that last raccoon, not showing up on any of my maps.. as well as getting an elusive achievement involving someone's hand, but not going to 100% this one, that's for sure, some bits are a bit too tedious to go through every time.
Toxic Commando dropping in two days though, wahey.

One nice thing about Assassins Creed is you can just get places. Most games it’s all “Oh no! A knee-high shrub, this path is blocked to me” or “You can climb this mountain by exploiting geometry. Probably. Or you might get blocked by a bad angle, fall to your death, or clip through the world and get stuck.”
So nice to come up to a cliff, give it a “whatever” and parkour up that thing.
Refreshing.

My other distraction at the moment is Scott Pilgrim Ex which REALLY recreates the gameplay loop of River City Ransom this time. Took me a minute to get into the need to spend money on healing items to level flow since the game seems to assume you just know how a 40 year old game that didn't explain itself functions. Really fun when you get in the groove, especially in multiplayer, but definitely a game that lets you fumble around for a while until you figure out how to make progress.

Found the last Raccoon statue in Requiem, hidden away in the one part where they don't show on the maps, yay.
Also did the thing with the hand, going through the clues, an interesting puzzle, but feth me, that's a lot of hoops for not a lot of reward.

Again, fun puzzle, but for all the hoops you need to go through to get it, was expecting a slightly better payoff.
Starship Troopers Ultimate Bugwar released and would love to play it but fething Unreal 5 keeps crashing the fether, forcing me to start over every time. Bleh.

Had a bit of a go of Cyberpunk 2077, playing as my psychopathic, ex-corpo, netrunner V. Netrunner is such a great way to play for an evil person. Sneaking up on a group of gangers and using Cyberpsychosis on one forcing them to kill and/or be killed by their mates is pretty brutal. Here's a photo of her.

After his organisation is hired to hunt down an influential gang leader on the Hive world, Omnartus. Attelus Kaltos is embroiled deeper into the complex world of the Assassin. This is the job which will change him, for better or for worse. Forevermore. Chapter 1.
The Angaran Chronicles: Hamar Noir. After coming back from a dangerous mission which left his friend and partner, the werewolf: Emilia in a coma. Anargrin is sent on another mission: to hunt down a rogue vampire. A rogue vampire with no consistent modus operandi and who is exceedingly good at hiding its tracks. So much so even the veteran Anargrin is forced into desperate speculation. But worst of all: drive him into desperate measures. Measures which drives Anargrin to wonder; does the ends, justify the means?

I'm currently trying Pathfinder: WotR, and the people who praise this game seem insane to me.
Rogue Trader was fine. It wasn't perfect, but it wasn't awful.
WotR has god-awful companions from the get-go, and the combat somehow has fewer options than BG3.

Apparently I just needed Resident Evil to get me back into the survival horror mood. After finishing Requium, I flipped back to Silent Hill f and it clicked into place pretty quickly. Impeccable atmosphere on this one and a great story too. Not entirely sure where it will land but I'm approaching the end and very curious how they tie it all up.

Jagged Alliance 2, absolutely adoring it so far. About to take on the Crepitus, hired Ivan Dolvich (to Steroid's chagrin) and gave everyone a gas-mask and assault rifle. Got plenty of glass jars to harvest the Queen's Royal Jelly, so taking on the other Queen will be easier. Just having my party rest outside the mine entrance. 7 sectors though... In my opinion Wrath of the Righteous is best enjoyed for the story and atmosphere. Game mechanics will only get in the way of your enjoyment.
Pathfinder/ DnD rules are fine as a baseline, but Owlcat sucks at balancing encounters to anything that could be considered a reasonable or average level. I was surprised that things only began to go off the rails after the second act. It almost fooled me into believing they might have learned something. But just as in Kingmaker, so many enemies are made stupid powerful in every imaginable way. High, armor class, immune to this, super resistant to that. There usually isn't any point in sophistication or using a wider array of skills and spells. Nothing beats brute forcing your way through combat encounters 99% of the time. Which does end up making things quite monotonous.
Surprisingly they seemed to get it right with Rogue Trader. Combat is enjoyable and fairly balanced on normal difficulty, and while daemonic invasions get repetitive eventually, at least boss fights and other, more unique encounters are nice and varied.
So it looks like they can do it. Which makes it all the more irksome that they completely screwed that part up in both Pathfinder games.
Character classes are silly in Wrath of the Righteous. You don't get anything normal and solid like in Kingmaker. Instead it's all special snowflakes with totally out there archetypes and mixed classes. That's really felt in the beginning. Camilla for instance is basically pointless. I stuck with here and by the end of the game she's actually pretty handy, but it takes a long time to get there over something as simple as a stock fighter or barbarian. It doesn't apply to every companion in the game, but early only you're not exactly spoiled for decent choices.

It's a bit rough around the edges but very charming.
Annoyingly it seems the devs ran out of money / it did not sell as well as hoped, and had to stop updating - and there are aspects that are definitely unfinished. In particular certain resources are just not available in sufficient quantities, and it really hamstrings the later game.

Team consists of the aforementioened IMP, Steroid, Grizzly, Wolf, Conrad, Ivan (for now), Mad Dog, Barry, and MD. They all have proved worthy with assault rifles, and the trio of MD, Barry, and Mad Dog are steadily improving their aim. About 4 sectors into the Crepitus lair, seeing all the mercs' reactions to them and what they call the bugs ("Pissants", "Buggies", "Monsters", "Nightmares", "Fearsome Beasts", "Sushi", "My Mother-In-Law"...) has been hilarious.

Well, I'm glad I deleted the game because I hated the story and atmosphere. I don't understand why so many fantasy settings need to be goofy and OTT.
BG3 has the same issue (because it's set in Forgotten Realms), but the companions and combat save it.
