I was thinking of Scots Guards, because of that kind of toga/cape, but I have no idea.

I also think it's most likely nomads. The arm and wristguard are nomad designs and new securitate are in order anyway.

If you take a look at the wrist guards, they're classic Nomad.

The "toga/cape" looks to be a long coat just shaded in such a way that you can still see the underlying design.

Yes, they look quite more modern than regular Ariadna stuff, but the fluff of the Scots Guards said that they usually worked in the whole Human Sphere and have some modern lesser stuff. So I thought it might fit. Because it looks hi-tech but it's not an actual gaming element. But it's just guessing...

I like that the Securitate look kind of Matrix-y. The shades are a cool touch. Nomads wear their sunglasses at night, of course.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

That is a weird looking jacket. It's like a cross between a poncho and a samurai haori.

All I know is that the glasses/hats combo is awesome. It adds a security-force looks that has a professionalism that stands out from the rest of the Nomads.

The Gao Tarsos looks pretty cool. I'm guessing from the faction that he isn't human. Is all the gear on his back some sort of a jetpack? As for the character packs, am I the only one that was expecting them to be sculpted in the pose the character art showed off during Gencon?

The Gao Tarsos is the Tohaa drop troop unit.

Generally the concept art poses are simple and not what you will see for the final pose.

cincydooley wrote:How do these dire foe boxes work exactly?

Basically they are a self-contained scenario, played out using the models in the box.

I'm kind of underwhelmed by the VIP models in the boxes. When Corvus Belli announced these sets, it was in response to requests for civilian models to use as objectives and things of that nature.
Angus is a nice one--but not really a civilian, and that entire box is based upon a whole meme/joke about a horny Fusilier.
The Comm-Tech is nice but the coquettish pose is kind of unnecessary IMO.
The Fleet Officer is nice as well but again with the silly poses.

When they first showed the concept art with all females for the VIPs, I was okay with it because they generally do a character study for both genders and pick whichever one looks best. I hope that the next two boxes will at least have another male VIP for some variety because as it stands, there is no reason to buy the boxes beyond the SpecOps models and the scenarios.

Personally I'm kind of irked that the boxes do not include a printed version of the scenarios. They can include artwork prints, but not a quick-start scenario printout with stats ala the little 'posters' that Privateer Press includes with their starter boxes?

Probably because there are more languages than english in the world, mate.

Spanish, italian, French, German... keep including languages and the wolume of printed pages will increase. Separate stock in different blocks for languages and you'll have a logistic nightmare.
Been there, done that.

I find Fusilier Angus a bit underwelming, I loved the troll face he had in the concept art. But I guess those huge glasses are a hint. I like a lot this kits. 4 boxed kits in a month? Is that a new record?

And...?
If they're creating the PDFs in different languages, then there is no reason they cannot take an extra step and actually include a printout with the boxes.

I do not know if they include a different "Holocard" with blisters or different box labels for different languages as all of mine have been English, even the ones that I ordered from Corvus Belli directly in Spain.

I know it's a bit demanding, but I really cannot fathom why they can justify including art prints with the box but not a physical copy of the rules.

I don't really care about "the sexy". Plus I still maintain that you cannot put forward the idea that the models are selling for Infinity because of "the sexy". I still have yet to see the old cat Daktari sell in person, and that thing is pretty much always in stock everywhere I have looked.
I just find it irksome that they continually justify it as "dynamic poses". It's not. It's a "signature pose" of seemingly a specific sculptor.
At this point you can pretty much say that this has become the "Infinity pose" for female models, much like the "Games Workshop" pose for a 40k model is waving a melee weapon or gun and shouting.

But that is not even really the kicker for me. The fact that they are charging you for the PDF scenario without even giving you a physical copy of the scenario or unit stats is what makes me really question the wisdom behind this. The stated purpose of the boxes was to give you a "Quick Start" box--but what kind of stupid idea is a quick start box that requires you to print out the rules?
To a lesser extent I'm also slightly annoyed by the fact that the civilians/VIPs(barring Angus) are going to be pretty useless for actually having civilians on the field because so far they are female and all going to be in pretty much the same pose. Of course the Hazmat and the corporate VIP could potentially have a male option rather than female, but that is not really likely.

Enough about that though--how about that Anaconda? We should be seeing the rules for it soon.

I have to agree with Kan on this - the decision to include the mission in the form of a limited code for a PDF is annoying, as it means I won't get any of them, as I don't want half of the box's contents most of the time.

Yup, those were the ones I was referring to. Don't get me wrong, they're nice figures but I kind of had my heart set on a couple of the figs on those poses specifically. No big deal in the end but I was curious if that is a common occurrence and if anyone else gives a hoot.

That!
Nothing personal towards Kan, but any reasonable person should be able to understand that.
Going for a PDF is the only sensible way. You get the version you want (so I can decide whether I want the english version or not, that's good) and CB can reduce wastage in regards to production cost, distribution and plain waste of material.
Plus I wouldn't want a small folded and creased piece of paper as it would come out of a unit box. Sure, this way I'll have to pay for the print and possibly lamination, but I can make sure it looks good and at the same time CB can focus on the important stuff, providing lovely miniatures and a great game.
Also this way we don't have to pay extra for that scenario thing, if we don't want to.

In regards to the poses I'm basically with Kan. I'm also not a friend of those ott cheesecake poses, but that's the basic vibe of most Infinity designs and I think one just has to deal with it. So we have to either accept it, change it or just quit nagging.

I can absolutely continue to put forward that idea and have it probably be more valid than yours simply due to the fact that CB continues to make models in this theme!

It might be time for you to let the Cat Daktari hatred fade too...

Also - hurrah for more art prints!

Bipandra went from an implausible-yet-cool karate-kick pose to blowing a kiss.

Treitak went from combat-pose-warrior-race to a runway model strut.

Angus went from a gak-eating-grin to something that actually would make sense as a civvie.

Bipandra + Treitak = Love Can Bloom: Infinity Edition

I'm happy they put all three of those in the same box, because everything else looks great. So much stuff this month, it's insane. Dire Foes is a sneaky way for CB to convince us to get other factions' models.

There's at least one figure in each box that I like, so I'll probably wind up with all of these.

I'm a little disappointed at Angus. He doesn't look at all like his concept design. Before he just looked like a doofus, now he looks like PSY. Bipandra blowing a kiss is a little odd, but I find that I actually do like the figure. It'll be nice having a few Fusiliers that don't look like gak. Treitak looks cool, Lupe looks good (can't tell if she's retained the stiletto heels though) and I still like the Gui Feng. I can't tell if that comms operator is supposed to belong to any particular faction though.
The Treitak's pose does seem a little goofy, but from the renders they showed off for her, she's actually drawing her sword, so it isn't quite so silly.

I want that Gao Tarsos, but I dread the assembly of him and I'm generally not a fan of the figures standing on one foot. It seems like they'll be easier to break or bend from a fall.

Are they? I mean, I agree that having the scenario and useful stuff as an exclusive download is a dumb move, more if we are talking about a company that can brag of having all their gaming material available for free. But we still don't know the pricing of the boxes. If it's going to be the price of the regular 4 minis box, yep, disappointing. If it's going to be a lower price... they are understanding just as an extra, not as something really necessary.

Edit: on the Treitak commentaries, as Barzam says, we had already seen the render, so there wasn't much room for surprises :\
