Hehe, yeah, I understood, just messing with ya, hence the other thing I wrote. I really find these OT reactions hilarious and sad. There's so much horrible stuff out there concerning real kids, they attack fictional characters made by regular joes who probably never did anything that bad in their entire life.

And like cloud said, the D&D thing ... man was that hilarious. I don't remember who posted here on a topic somewhere, but I saw this panphlet that had a small comic explaining the horrors and dangers of D&D and it included witchcraft, suicides and satan worship. It looked like something out of the dark ages.

Oh man, those tracts by that Chick guy... were... superduperwrongandawful... yet also hilarious.

I haven't run a group in a long time, but Mazes and Monsters was always required watching for all of my players, so they knew the dangers of playing D&D. You know, if you're Tom Hanks in a movie, and also borderline crazy already.

Ah feth. Well if you have family who watches CNN and knows you enjoy anime, A. encourage them to switch to a better news source like the BBC and B. potentially prepare for an awkward conversation.

In Admiral Ackbar news, some awesome new eps so far this week. I also stumbled on the 4 minute short Himegoto and uh... I think it's hilarious and I wonder what that says about me as a person.

Because I have nothing better to do I'm going to comment on this video in real-time.

"INNOCENT. YOUNG. GIRLS." I lol'd, there is no reason to be so serious.

Oh hey man it's a good thing you obscured the covers and titles of every manga in the store, otherwise we might have been able to see the titles being discussed and maybe ascertain whether what you're claiming is bs or not.

Oh fething Ken Akamatsu, stop this.

Well that was disappointing, I was hoping to comment on so much more but there was so little content I had nothing to work with.

I feel like just dismissing any anti-lolicon stance is silly though. Negima for example clearly sexualizes teenage girls to titillate the reader, though to be fair most of said teenage girls are physically mature and all are above the age of consent in Japan. More troubling is the lackadaisical (I may or may not be using this word right) way it addresses some of these teenage girls more or less sexually assaulting Negi, a ten year old boy. The reason there isn't as much backlash against this as one might think is because the perpetrators are female, and the victim male (If you've read it, recall the moment where Makie lifts Negi's towel to look at his penis, do you think a 16 year old boy would get away with doing the equivalent to a 10 year old girl?). Or at least, that was my assumption.

Then I discovered Kodomo no Jikan. Well, not discovered it, technically. I'd heard of it before. Being something of a contrarian shitbird I was going to debate against people slamming it as "pedoshit" and to do so was going to do some research. I was under the assumption it was like Lolita (Good book btw), an edgy tale exploring sexual awakening in adolescents and using children in sexual scenarios to make the viewer uncomfortable. Then I found the final few chapters on google images and, I swear to God, at first I thought I accidentally stumbled on a hentai doujin. It was that bad. Spoiler alert he has sex with the girl (She's 12), this is portrayed as romantic, the final panel is them clasping hands, and I nearly spit my drink over my keyboard because holy gak this is mainstream and aired on public television.

I don't agree with the lazy and biased way they tackled the subject in the video (I mean, it is CNN), but I would have actually liked to see an in-depth exploration of "lolicon" in anime and how it affects people, because I do think in some cases it really is a problem. Whereas CNN implies that any work that features children having sex (Be it consensual or not, I mean really, there's a difference between featuring child sexuality and outright sexualizing it for the titillation of the viewer) should be banned. Which is dumb.

I find the whole thing ridiculous, lolis or not. One of my favorite "franchises" alone, Touhou, has 2 characters I really like that make this "real life rating system" bogus.

This is Remilia Scarlet:
Spoiler:

She has the body of a 14 year old. She's 500 years old. I wonder how CNN would classify her.

This is Suwako Moriya:
Spoiler:

She's a physical goddess that can look whatever she wants. She uses a child like body because she feels like it and doesn't scare the crap out of everyone who see her. To make things REAL awkward, she's the only Touhou character that's confirmed that has a descendant, Sanae, her Shrine Maiden:
Spoiler:

I bet CNN would blow a fuse or something if they knew her.

I have read and browsed many hentai doujins with both of them and many more but I didn't become a raving monster hungry for small children flesh... *sigh* Tho that's what I'd be called by moral crusaders.

There's a wealth of difference between a work having lolis in it and a work that actively exploits lolis for the sexual gratification of its fanbase (Kodomo no Jikan is on the most extreme end of this spectrum I can recall from a non-hentai work).

Also, the "really super fething old" ploy is a bit stale. I've been told Touhou doesn't sexualize its characters (I know little of the work itself), but making a character with the body of a small, pre-pubescent girl and then arbitrarily making her really fething old doesn't suddenly make lusting after her physically not pedophilia. Now, admittedly, this train of thought is pretty controversial for two reasons: One, the attraction could be one founded purely on personality or emotions, an attraction of the character for her compelling personality or emotional complexity. And even the physical attraction angle is a bit muddied because, well, some guys just have a preference for more petite girls and I am not discerning enough to say with 100% certainty the definite differences between merely an older child (Like 12ish) and a woman who happens to be small and petite. So I guess while my thoughts on this subject started off fairly cut and dry, thinking about it there is a bit of a grey area to consider.

I'd agree that the argument that reading loli-centric work or doujins leads to child molestation is largely unfounded. That's not what most rational people are worried about I think. The problem arises when a work (Like, sigh, Kodomo no Jikan) is mainstream and influential, and begins portraying pedophilia in a positive light. Which I don't think Touhou does, right?

Sorry if this was a bit rambling.

Eh, we are discussing stuff, rambling is good

I had no idea about the existance of Kodomo no Jikan but IMO, I don't see how it can be influential. I mean, maybe I'm being a bit naïve, but I'd like to think people know what's right and wrong and don't use a manga, of all things, to justify themselves. That's just:

About the second question, yeah, there's none of that, only an enormous amount of cute characters kicking each other's ass with awesome, awesome music It's the fans who go to great lenghts to create their "ships". The amount of Touhou porn is staggering.

Also, going to start Hamatora based purely on the current intro being awesome.

Eh, it could become good, it's taking it's sweet time getting there.

Put it next to some other stuff happening this season (Tokyo Ghoul, RE: Hamatora, Aldnoah.Zero, Akame ga Kill etc.) and it becomes kinda weak sauce.

Started if "If Her Flag Breaks". Very very much enjoying it so far. Very up beat and fun, while at a very good pace mixing in the darker half to the story.

I just couldn't handle the first episode. The animation was terrible imo for a first episode which normally goes all out.

The manga got good reviews too on a pod cast I listen too. Should I consider giving it another go?

Id say so from what Ive been through so far. The animation style however doesnt change very much as far as Ive gone so that may be a bit of a hurdle for you if you found yourself not liking it that much,

Yeah the animation was a bit off putting for me. Then again, I said the same thing about Nobunaga Concerto and I'm very much enjoying that.

Rokujouma no Shinryakusha!?'s episode this week annoyed me greatly. For one it's a fairly entertaining anime, and they cut to a beach episode early as hell in the season. I expect that out of dross like Momo Kyun Sword which is 99% fanservice 1% plot/fighting/"comedy" but not out of stuff that seems to actually have an idea of what it's doing... and then the fethers had to go and mess with my ship!
