That was done using three degrees of color and a wash. The wash was used for the shading. Then i started layering from darkest to lightest. lighter colors higher and more centered. then selected areas close that would reflect light making sure the father from the light the darker the color.

Haha, I'll be honest I never really noticed. I believe it was because I was still new and was horrible at painting white. And doing them separately was easier. As for the bare heads I wanted to do all the details, including the back of the heads.
