Got inspired reading this blog post http://bandit86.blogspot.com/2011/05/post-apocalyptic-water-merchants-truck.html
and since I already had the same toy, I decided to get to work!

It began life as this 1/43 scale toy from the Toys R Us. Marketed as their "Fast Lane" brand turning the truck over reveals that it's made by New Ray, a chinese company that makes nicely detailed, but not particularly sturdy toy vehicles.

New Ray toys tend to be held together with screws, so it's not hard to disassemble them for priming.

The Finished Product

I wanted to make it so figures could stand on the sides so I cut the deck under the tank in half and glued the halves to the side of the tank edges. Also I bumped the tank back and added a deck on top of the tank to make even more standing room. You can fit at least 11 (more if you're extra creative) figures on this thing!

The Driver. Tank Commander body/half-legs, Catachan arms, Command squad wide mohawk head.

I really should have taken the time to trim the mold lines. At the time I wanted to preserve the chrome finsih, but it probably didnt' matter since you can't see it well anyway.

The only parts not from the toy are the grill decoration, front spikes and some crocheting mesh for the walkway over the tank.

One hint, the paint is so thick on this (and most toys) that after you're done adding your paint, you can scratch off your paint (usually with your fingernail) to reveal the original emblems underneath. In this case, the "Peterbuilt" badges on the front and sides of the engine compartment.

The colors aren't quite as dark in real light. The photographs seem to have darkened them a bit.

The prep was:
1 Black Primer
2 Gouge some holes and dents in it.
3 Block painting of color mostly by drybrushing with a bit more paint on the brush than a traditional drybrush.
4 Repeated washings in Burnt Sienna Folk Art Craft paint, purposely allowing it to pool and dry where rust/dirt would collect.
5 Hit dents and diamond plate with a bit of metalic silver
6 Another Wash of Burnt Sienna
7 Drybrush with tan to dust it up a bit
8 Matte Spray to seal

I had diassembled and primed it earlier. The rest of the project took just about 2.5 viewings of "The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. This vehicle will probably see action in our games of Wastelands as a functioning vehicle and in WarEngine as a piece of scenery.

I love it but it's missing one crucial element: Mel Gibson.

Thin your paints, drill your gun barrels, remove all mold lines. The Emperor wills it.

I reminds me of the final few episodes of the long dead webcomic that I cannot remember the name of where the Imperial Guard were fighting some Orks who were protecting their truckload of squig beer, Waaaghheimer. in the end it exploded (Squig beer is highly flammable...) and only one can of it was left for a couple of guardsmen to drink. (Apparently, only two guardsmen survived the explosion.)

Great conversion! You should consider aiding a tail gun ramp in the rear, like in the Road Warrior flick

Thanks,
I'm probably not going to add anything to the top to keep the height down for storage, However, I am considering putting weapon mounts on 2 or 4 corners of the bed. (probably just IG mortars mounted upside down with a hole drilled in the top) I've got a few internchangeable heavy weapons (basic heavy weapons with a pin in the bottom) for my other post apoc vehicles, so I could continue the trend.

Very Nice looking the only thing i would have done was take some of that metal textured plasticard and some wire and but extra armor on it that would make it seem a little more logical for Postapoc

Here's the name of Imperial Guardsmen that fought orks in that dead webcomic: Egg and Bacon

it take workarounds to make a crossover between Warhammer 40k and Digimon, Teen Titans, Pokemon, Kingdom Hearts, Happy Tree Friends, Mario, Sonic, and MLP:FIM works
