Got inspired reading this blog post

and since I already had the same toy, I decided to get to work!
It began life as this 1/43 scale toy from the Toys R Us. Marketed as their "Fast Lane" brand turning the truck over reveals that it's made by New Ray, a chinese company that makes nicely detailed, but not particularly sturdy toy vehicles.
New Ray toys tend to be held together with screws, so it's not hard to disassemble them for priming.
The Finished Product
I wanted to make it so figures could stand on the sides so I cut the deck under the tank in half and glued the halves to the side of the tank edges. Also I bumped the tank back and added a deck on top of the tank to make even more standing room. You can fit at least 11 (more if you're extra creative) figures on this thing!
The Driver. Tank Commander body/half-legs, Catachan arms, Command squad wide mohawk head.
I really should have taken the time to trim the mold lines. At the time I wanted to preserve the chrome finsih, but it probably didnt' matter since you can't see it well anyway.
The only parts not from the toy are the grill decoration, front spikes and some crocheting mesh for the walkway over the tank.
One hint, the paint is so thick on this (and most toys) that after you're done adding your paint, you can scratch off your paint (usually with your fingernail) to reveal the original emblems underneath. In this case, the "Peterbuilt" badges on the front and sides of the engine compartment.
The colors aren't quite as dark in real light. The photographs seem to have darkened them a bit.
The prep was:
1 Black Primer
2 Gouge some holes and dents in it.
3 Block painting of color mostly by drybrushing with a bit more paint on the brush than a traditional drybrush.
4 Repeated washings in Burnt Sienna Folk Art Craft paint, purposely allowing it to pool and dry where rust/dirt would collect.
5 Hit dents and diamond plate with a bit of metalic silver
6 Another Wash of Burnt Sienna
7 Drybrush with tan to dust it up a bit
8 Matte Spray to seal
I had diassembled and primed it earlier. The rest of the project took just about 2.5 viewings of "The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. This vehicle will probably see action in our games of Wastelands as a functioning vehicle and in WarEngine as a piece of scenery.
