I want some planes for my mid/early italians. I've found the following site, which carries a huge range of 1/100 scale airplanes. I'm aware that BF planes are 1/144, but these are cheaper, and can be used as terrain when they are not in my list
http://www.angelfire.com/nj4/armamentsinminiature/aircraftinminiature/15mm/resinlist15mm.htm

The issue with the huge range is of course that I can't make up my mind about what plane I want supporting my ground pounders.

Fiat CR.42AS

Fiat G.50

Macchi C.200 Saetta

Breda Ba.65 M 80

Macchi C.202 Folgore

So, what plane should I choose?

Well, the only one BF produces is the Fiat, unfortunately. Do you know any good 3rd party producers for the other craft? If so, Id be interested for my own Bersag list :p

Personally I'd go with the Macchi 200 or 202, as I think they both look awesome. Especially the Folgore.

Why not use a Picchiatelli?

If you're looking for 15mm planes, you may try Armaments in Miniature:

Try searching the TMP WW2-Air forums for "Armaments in Miniature" for some reviews/pics.

It's in the OP - Armaments in miniature:

The only "negative" is that these planes are in 1/100 scale, so they are much bigger than BF planes who are 1/144. I'm not sure if they might be so big that it becomes difficult to use them, but a positive side of having planes in 15mm is that they can also be used as terrain.

The folgore is a beauty, the issue with it is that it was really only a fighter. It's still on my list because of its looks. The Saetta was a fighter/bomber, but is not as slender and sexy as the folgore

I'm always a fan of the bi plane

Not really for tactical usefulness, just more of a "Haha" to my opponents!

The bi-plane does fit in with the general "crappy equipment" look and feel of midwar italians. On the other hand, so does the G.50 and the Breda...

I like the Macchi C.200 Saettas myself, but I also find delight in my CR 42 Falcos bombing my opponent as well.

If you're looking for third party aircraft, check out Sweet models; they're a Japanese company and the models are great. The decals are prob the best I've seen bar none.

There's also a guy on ebay that carves aircraft out of wood in 1/100 and 1/144 scale and he does all of the Italian aircraft of the period....even CR 32's lol!

I'm looking to have all the aircraft for my Italians, though right now, i currently have the JU-87B2 Stukas and the CR 42 Falcos, but I'm going to be using the Falcos more, now that I have the models.....

Sure thing!

It's jsmwarplanes; the guy's name is James. He even models fight stands for them and paints them as well.

Yes he does Soviet aircraft as well; the link above is his store area, so you can scroll through, but i believe you can special order the planes you want and he'll do them.

It kind of depends what Italian army you have. If (like me) you have an eastern front asmir type army, then the one to go for is the Mc200 Saetta, on the grounds that is the only one they used! Ditto really for Sicilan operations. The CR-42's and Ba-65's had long been withdrawn by the time of the invasion of Sicily, the G-50's had been mostly shot down, and the Mc202 was never used for ground support.

If like most Italian army commanders, your concentration is fighting in north Africa, the Ba-65 had a short and unspectacular career and was pretty much withdrawn from service even before "Operation Compass" finished. Besides, its an ungainly and ugly looking plane! CR-42's and G-50's were probably the main ones used in the early war period. Mc200's started to supplant them for ground support later on.

Welcome to Dakka, but the last post in this thread was 2011/09/22, a little less than a year ago. I think the author has likely made up his mind by now!

Good point! Its just that I was in the middle of choosing a plane for my own, new Italian army, and was thus rather sensitised to the subject and didnt notice the posting date! Anyway, I went with an MC200 from Sweet. It hasnt arrived yet, but thats ok, as Im busy preparing Italian artillery.
