I have far too many human sci-fi troopers of various brands... but I will have to get some of those Unity Guard Infantry Squad, they are some of the coolest troopers I have seen in a while.

An LMG version of an automatic shotgun?! Sounds brutal!

Also, loving the look of the Pulse mech. It is an interesting blend of the Republic aesthetic and the Unity one, almost like they've captured an Ajax and retro-fitted it's tech.

Hey Everyone, Thanks for the feedback on the new stuff, I will have a lot of previews up over the next few days and of course during the Kickstarter which is on track to kick off next wednesday!

@Barzam- yep its probably a similar technology level, I would imagine a lot of stolen tech from the CRANE suits.. The Pulse mech is smaller and lighter but much faster and more manoeuvrable.. oh and it has rail-carbines..

@Mlaw - which figures? The pulse mechs will have separate heads and arms. The Unity Guard will have heads cast as one piece (due to the collars) however I am thinking of doing some alternate versions with different guns and heads (to go with the same greatcoat legs)

Yeah I meant on the trench-coats.
I didn't realize the legs were separate (they are right?)
What I would like to be able to do is make some free-agent, matrix type people from those by doing easy head swaps. Would be cool if you could pull that off but I could see now why it would throw a wrench into things.

On that pulse mech, is it the light suit you were talking about? It might look a little on the heavier side than you realize.. more like power armor than a simple assist suit. I think it's mostly the legs.. they look super beefy and mechanical unlike the upper body which looks more of an assist. If the torso is separate it's fine but you might want to consider something more like that suit that Studio McVey makes (barker zosa I think) or something like leg braces with hydraulics.. EDIT: Another thing that makes it seem more like power armor is all of those beefy cables/conduits covering his abs and legs.

Also, I noticed on the heads, the chins on a lot of your helmeted figures round in like a sphere rather than leaving enough room for the jaw and chin area. As an artist that bugs the hell out of me. I won't launch into an anatomy lecture or discussion or whatever just something that has caused me to hold off on purchases of a few things until I can figure out a head swap, which is unfortunate because I like the helmet designs, they just have that one area that makes me scratch my head.

Lastly, is there any chance of you doing heads wearing an environmental face screen? Something like the humans in James Camerons' Avatar might wear. Basically just a human head with the front a giant smooth lens with straps like on a gas mask or even a space helmet with a large smoothed over front for a big lens (like an astronaut helmet). If not, I get it.. this isn't a restaurant and a lot of people tend to forget that and just ask for whatever, but it's something I've been looking for and in me looking for it I've found a lot of threads of others looking for something similar. Infinity and Ramshackle games are the only two I've found that do a whole head mask like that and neither of those are options for two different reasons.

No, at first I thought he had ears, too.

MLaw, I'm pretty sure the light Exo-Suit mentioned was the Council's Tracer suits. Those are heavy weapons guys with light exo-skeletons.

Morning guys,

Thanks for the feedback!

@Mlaw - yes the Unity Guard figures will be cast in two parts - waist down, and waist up, like our other AFTERLIFE infantry.

This also has the added bonus that when we have a few kits - we will put up a "make your own" and people can combine the top and bottom halves from any kits to make their own infantry.

If you have a dremel or just a craft knife and some patience, it would be reasonably easy to remove the Unity guard helmets leaving just the collar, and then drop another head in, but I appreciate its not ideal!

This pulse mech isnt the suit I was talking about - this one is a lot more powered armourish. The arms are only "assist" because they only have to hold the weapons, wherase the legs have to support the entire weight of the suit. I will be making some lighter exo infantry at some point including the Tracers for the Unity Council.

Regarding the chins - I appreciate your bringing it up = which figures do you mean exactly? Ive looked at the Afterlife models and I can only see that perhaps the grenadier helmet is a tiny bit too narrow from the front view.

I have attached a side view render of the pulse mech with the human "scale model" visible inside.

Do you have an image link for the type of mask you are after? I cant promise anything right now but in a few months we will have our own 3D printer and then hopefully make new head varients will be very straightforward.

@Jehan.. It took me a while to figure out what the hell you were on about.. I guess I have spent many hours looking at the model!

You can see on the image below the "ears" are the capacitor power plant which generates the electrical energy to fire the synthetic muscles, in pulses, hence the Pulse-Mech name

On the chins, I can't find the image I saw, and I'm not sure if it's an existing one or one you previewed but the Ajax is also a culprit.. it's not as bad as whatever it was but the chin is seemingly less pronounced... ergh not it's bothering me that I can't find what I was talking about after I pointed it out. I do think the chins on those trenchcoat dudes are probably a bit softer than they should be but I don't think they are what I saw either. Kinda feel silly now, especially since I didn't link it when it was fresh in my mind. I do agree on the grenadier helmet as well.. and maybe those were what I saw but it doesn't seem like it. I'm starting to think it could've been an exo-lord helmet.

I'm glad the pulse mech isn't the lighter one, and after seeing what it is intended to be, it's bang on, Is there any way though that the mounting system could look a little more like it's part of the suit rather than a glued on gun? Like some kind of half-cage that secured it around the back of the knuckles or forearm or something? It's always bothered me with models with that sort of gun when the gun just looks tacked on and not like it's actually part of a weapons system.

Space Helmets (note.. I'm pretty sure all of these are someone's IP so these are really just a general idea)

Hey,

Ok.. well if you find it, let me know, Im always learning and improving and its useful to know where I get thinks wrong - Im a stickler for detail with mechanical systems/robots and its only right to extend that to the soft stuff inside the armour!
The Ajax - yes the helmet does round in at the front, but its also a fair bit larger than the normal helmets - a lot more gear and armour in there.

Regarding the suit and the arm/gun attachment - the lack of a permanent connection to the human arm is deliberate-

The suit is "nerve synched" to the pilot, so the mechanical arms follow the movements of the human limbs exactly, however, if the pilot wanted to, they can control the mechanical limb independently while using their regular arm for something else (setting a proximity mine, installing hacking software, eating a sandwich etc..)

Some of the poses will have the mechanical limb separate which will explain what I mean better!

Thanks for the "space helmet" references, no plans for something like that right now but Im sure they will creep in somewhere!

I finally got around to painting again, and started working on the Vanguard minis. Only took me the whole summer to finish this guy, so feel free to take your time on producing the figures for Volume One. =P

I'm also liking the expanded fluff a lot (and idly wondering if Thorne or somebody else within the UC might be looking to use the Republic secession as an opportunity to fracture Raul's power base....).

Very badass looking - however I cannot un-notice that the weapon optics are somewhat backwards.

While clearly inspired by the EoTech, any type of visual enhancers, such as NOD's or magnification would be placed behind the Optic sight.

But a very cool model and I love the Vector-type gun!

The guy as a whole kinda works, love the forearm mounted sidearm, but that main weapon - well I hope it's some kind of auto-shotgun.

The distance between the magazine and the end of the barrel is very short. This will lead to a greater muzzle velocity, but lower accuracy in the weapon, as there is minimal barrel length.

For a conflict/setting such as this, a more "Bullpup" design would be more desireable - such as the British Enfield "EM-2" which was an experimental design developed during WW2. This places the magazine behind the trigger, increasing the actual barrel length whilst keeping the weapon length such that it is usable in tight situations such as building clearance. The longer barrel, however, means that the weapon is still able to function at range in the open.

Morning,

@Rayth - thanks for posting the figure up, nice paint work! Everyone in Afterlife is out for themselves, so I wouldnt be suprised if Thorne sticks a knife in Raul at some point..

@Barzam - correct thats a Republic Commando. I will be doing a team up for the KS with lots of varied tactical equipment.

@Jehan - we worked out the SHARD would be around 30" long and 11" wide.. perhaps as a terrain element..

@Treadheadz - Yeah this was picked up by lots of people on facebook - I made a mistake with the reference image I was using, I will fix the sight.

@Conrad - its a submachine gun. Its based on a RL gun, the KRISS Vector, and the real gun has the same configuration and short barrel. I can increase the barrel length a little bit!

Thanks all for feedback

OK, Thanks for that.

Interesting weapon, but it's definately a CQB weapon, effective to about 50 yards. My personal prefference is for something that works at longer range, but can understand the design more now.

No problem.

A lot of the combat in afterlife will be inside office blocks/factorys/dense urban areas where a compact and powerfull SMG capable of 1200 rounds a minute is all you need!

For longer range stuff - some of the guys in the squad will have rifles, and the Pulse Mechs will of course have more powerful weapons.

I was under the impression that a longer barrel (up to a point) increased the muzzle velocity, as there was more time for the gases to exert a force on the projectile before dissipating. Hence why most Anti-tank guns have very long barrels, whereas anti-infantry tank weapons are much shorter. A good example being the difference between the Sherman 75mm and 76mm guns.

That is a fold-stock/ammo grip pistol sitting on his wrist area, and I am guessing is removed and the grip/ammo feed snaps out to make a proper grip and use the pistol off the wrist and in his hand, likely for close combat shooting, or when his rifle runs dry
