MechaniCon 2012 @ The Warstore Weekend
October 26-28, 2012
Crowne Plaza Hotel Secaucus-Meadowlands
2 Harmon Plaza
Secaucus, NJ 07094
MechaniCon's Warhammer 40,000 Grand Tournament will be moving the venue to join The WarStore Weekend!
http://thewarstoreweekend.com/the-mechanicon-40k-gt/
Back for their second year, The WarStore Weekend, is a 3 day gaming convention run by - you guessed it - The WarStore! There are other major events joining forces and teaming up to put together a massive weekend of gaming and hobby events.
We will still offer our "Old School - Hobby Style" Grand Tournament format. Expect a rules pack to be available in August, 2012 as we will have to wait for the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 before we can figure everything out.
Also joining will be Mike Clark, aka Mikhaila here on the boards. Showcase & the NE Big Gunz will be running the major Warhammer Fantasy Battle Events!
Battlefront Miniatures will be running 3 days of Flames of War events.
Warmachine and Hordes will also have 3 days of events!
Most of the clubs that have run events at MechaniCon and Showcase will also be participating. All the organizers will be very active in putting out information as it is available, so watch the boards and our websites to stay up to date with our latest news.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

5 games at 1500- Nice! Should be plenty of time to finish games, and make the new edition glitches able to be worked out.
You say you're using all the rules from 6th ed as-is, but does that mean that you'll be having a judge place terrain after fortifications are placed? Allowing fortress of redemption, etc? Would just be curious to hear how you'll be handling terrain, as it will probably need a clarification, at least.
There's an outside chance I could attend as well... but it's a bit of a long shot atm.

Our website got hacked and we had to scrap it.
All rules are hosted on the WarstoreWeekend website.
http://thewarstoreweekend.com/the-mechanicon-40k-gt/
We will begin the process of loading past coverage back on our site soon. Automatically Appended Next Post: Empchild an RiTides, sorry for the delay, missed your questions.
We are running the same awards as last year.
Best Overall (Total of all scoring categories)
Second Best Overall
Best Painted (Total of Appearance, Overall is tiebreaker)
Second Best Painted
Best General (Total of Battle, Overall is tiebreaker)
Second Best General
Best Sportsman (Total of Sportsmanship, Overall is tiebreaker)
Second Best Sportsman
In addition to the main awards we also feature an Army Domination trophy to the top General for each Codex.
We also have some fun awards that will be added based on whatever reason we come up with to hand out more trophies and loot!
Examples of past awards:
Appearance Improvement Scholarship
-Battlefoam Painting case and supplies
Try another game award
-Warhammer Fantasy Battle box set
Furthest Travelled
-Battlefoam travel case and GW novels
All the fortifications are legal and scenery will be placed by staff at the start of each round...
At the start of each round, you will provide your opponent with a copy of your army list.
Missions will be revealed at the start of each round.
Roll off against your opponent for choosing which deployment zone you will use. The winner will choose.
Terrain will be set by the staff by the start of each round. Please use the sideboards provided to pile your supplies at the end of each round so we are ready to start at the beginning of the following round.
Fortifications can then be set by the players at each table. If you have a Fortification to be placed, please alert a staff member so that the terrain can be adjusted accordingly. Fortifications must be deployed as per the main rules. Fortifications may be nudged by the staff to accommodate game play.
Place any objectives that the mission may require (see Mission handout).
Roll to determine Warlord Traits.
Generate random Psychic Powers if necessary.
Deploy Forces. Players will roll off to determine who will deploy first, the winner chooses to deploy first or second.
The player who deployed second may attempt to Seize the Initiative.
After your game, you and your opponent will fill out the result sheet and sportsmanship cards and hand them in.
Yes, you can play with a Fortress of Redemption but you are giving up 20% of your army if you do and it really isn't that great compared to an Aegis line or a Bastion. 40K is a miniatures game and 6th edition really opens up the possibilities for what models you can use so enjoy your collection!

The rules info pages have been updated for this year's MechaniCon. Check them out now and look for the Primer Missions this week!

Also please help get the word out if anyone is still on the fence. Even if you are not up for the MechaniCon main event there is a TON of other great stuff not 40K related. It is just way too much to list so check it out at their site.

Three weeks remain until The WarStore Weekend and MechaniCon 2012!
Just to remind everyone, MechaniCon is committed to going ALL-IN with 6th edition 40K as much as is organizationally possible -- warlord traits, mysterious objectives, mysterious terrain, fliers, fortifications, and Forge World. It's a new era and a new edition, so let's *really* give it a try.
Note that our table setup WILL accommodate Hammer & Anvil deployments.
Tickets are $85 for the two-day event, and include your regular convention badge. And with The WarStore hosting, you know you're in for both awesome prizes and great prices on your gaming purchases.

Here is the latest info - tickets are still available for many events but they are going fast. Order yours today to take advantage of the hotel discount and pre-reg.
Attention Warstore Weekend Attendees!
We are excited that the convention is less than a month away, and with the con being right around the corner there are some updates you should know about! If you haven’t booked your hotel room yet, the date for the Hotel Block is close. If you have not booked your room by October 12th, you will not be able to get your room at our convention room rate.
Also, we will be closing Pre-Reg on the 19th! That allows us to get all the badges ready and prep all of those awesome grab bags we have been working on. This is all very exciting, with the con being so close.
We look forward to seeing you there!

We are wrapping up the finishing touches for this year and have another pic to share. Here are some of the Orky Archeotech Artifacts and Bridges!
What sets the MechaniCon 40K Grand Tournament apart from most others is our desire to offer the best tables and scenery for your gaming enjoyment. We have the best tables with sideboards to place your army, loads of GW Terrain as well as some of our own constructions. Do you want to play on a sheet with hunks of foam or a real battlefield?
Looking over the 6th edition rules, we were very happy with our scenery collection. Here is a list of the scenery in the rulebook and what we have for our tables:
Buildings - done
Dilapidated Fortifications (Bastions and Landing Pads) - done
Ruins - done
Forests/Jungles/Woods - done
Rivers/Lakes/Ponds - done
Ammo dump - done
Barricades/Walls - done
Comms Relay - done
Defense Lines - done
Fuel Reserves - done
Gun Emplacements - done
Impact Craters - done
Imperial Statuary - done
Hills - done
Shield Generators - next year
Shrine to Chaos - done
Tanglewire - done
Tank Traps - done
Trench Lines - next year
Wild undergrowth - next year
Wreckage - done
There are so many great clubs and manufacturers involved that it is turning out to be one of the best events around! Don't miss it!

Due to the most recent FAQ being released right at the end of our deadlines AND because it could have an impact on list building, we are extending the time for the Early List Submission bonus point to Monday, October 22 @ midnight EST.
You can find the Chaos Space Marine FAQ v1.0a here:
http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m2710181a_Chaos_Space_Marines_v1.0a.pdf
All other Errata and FAQ information for the MechaniCon Grand Tournament can be found on our site here:
http://www.themechanicon.com/1/rules-info/rules-faqs/
There have been loads of events added, including a great painting competition run by the same folks who are active at the HMGS events like Historicon, Cold Wars and Fall In! Make sure you check to schedule to plan what you are bringing and what you plan to participate in!

Excited to attend this event yet again.....this will be my 4th time to Mechanicon, and every year it has been wonderful.
Several of our club members will be there, some to play with the 40K GT as well as Battlefleet Gothic and some to play in the Heavy Gear events with DP9.
The Berks-PA Gaming Club will also be hosting 3 rounds of 40K Kill-Team Mini-tournaments around the schedule of the Grand Tournament.
If you are still sitting on the bubble on trying to decide on weather or not to come to this event, I strongly urge you to go. The format is classic of what GW old-school Grand Tournaments were like, about ALL aspects of the hobby, competition, painting, modeling and of course sportsmanship.
In a scene where NOVA style formats are dominant, it is refershing to see that there are still other options for the rest of us who enjoy the hobby for what it is.

While I'm sure Mechanicon is a great event because I know some of the guys involved and they're great all around people & enthusiastic hobbyists (never been able to go sadly just due to other personal obligations), I think comments like this, (if it is one!), at other events/formats can distract from the message you're trying to get across, which is that the Mechanicon is an awesome/fairly unique event for what we usually see on the East Coast. From when I started 15 years ago I've seen the hobby/community grow from something I could get barely get occasional games in of at a tiny hobby shop with just a couple opponents, to a diverse GT scene all over the East Coast (can't speak for the rest of the country as I haven't traveled too much yet!) - which is pretty darn awesome.
Just gave that an edit as someone gave me a heads up that I may have read into your post more then was there, sorry about that
