It's Hedonism-Bot! Well, the 40k version anyway. I'm liking the hands on the end of the legs, it's a nice touch.

hah yep, Hedonism-Bot was an inspiration, as was Mojo (from X-Men) and a few others. He was originally going to be full blown Slaanesh (because Slaanesh is the god of excess and gluttony is a form of excess) but I decided to use him as an informant of sorts instead, inspired by the character Efil Drago San in a Judge Dredd audiobook.

Very nice conversion on the slaver. Will the servo skulls be carrying around plates of food or wine?

Ooh, that would be kind of neat to see. Or perhaps corrupt cherub-style servitors carrying platters? Either way, nice mini thus far.

ah I have some ideas for the servo skulls, although don't want to give it away (or say what I want to do and then not be able to). I really want to get hold of one of those robocherub models though, hard to find.

I've finished painting the first member of my Inq28 warband - the heavy servitor. He's been extensively genebulked and is lugging a portable generator on his back, as well as mining/excavation equipment that could probably be used in hand to hand combat if push came to shove. He even has a tow hook in case he has to pull any chimeras out of a quagmire.

Tried some OSL and some new weathering techniques like the mud on his drill and the cracked paint on his chainfist. Not the best photos, the contrast is a bit extreme.

PS the base is a cork base supplied by Andy_T, I really like bases that blend into the board and scenery rather than looking like an elaborate podium..

Only one reply....I'll blame mothers day! Feel the need to bump this.

He bodes well for the rest of the retinue.

How is handy/feety coming along?

I'll get back to hand-feet spider eunuch soon but at the moment I am doing some more painting - working on the tech priest at the moment.

I also have an Ash Waste gang (with vehicles!) about 50% built and a bunch of new terrain bits ready for painting. We are planning to start an ash waste campaign soon and I got caught up with that for a while, very pleased with how they are looking.

Great to hear that you currently have the painting bug.

You're making ash wastes terrain....should be interesting ;-) Are you making a whole new table then?

Ashwastes reminds me - Eldar and Ratskins.

It'll be a few new bits of scenery - nothing special - and some existing stuff can pull double duty. Thought about getting a Zuzzy mat and a couple of hills, quite cheap and easy to store considering all the space already taken up with scenery.

Almost finished the tech priest now, ought to have a pic soon. More painting than I have done in months.

I've mainly been painting this weekend, here's the Magos Biologis Tayschrex completed. Sorry for the crappy pics again, I'm not going to try too hard to get better ones as I will have a new camera soon and can re-shoot everything later.

Although Tayschrex is a Biologis he shares a lot of traits with Explorator magi as he prefers to travel (often alone apart from his servitors) to distant xenos planets looking for rare mutations or genetic abnormalities that could aid in the creation of biological weapons. He has a particular fascination with the various types of Eldar and as his experiments become more grotesque and his travels remove him from even the limited human contact the Adeptus Mechanicus employ he has become increasingly eccentric and distanced from humanity, replacing most parts of his flesh with machinery and viewing people and xenos as little more than potential experiments. Replacing his legs with tracks was a practical decision requiring only a moments thought - tracks don't get tired and provide a stable platform for his mobile surgeries. He no longer possess a larynx but can communicate audibly using a basic voice modulator that often malfunctions through lack of use. He no longer feels any sentimentality towards his flesh and rarely feels any emotion at all.

I like to think of him as like a little Dr Frankenstein Wall-E.

nice painting the machinery parts on the magos... do feel like his robe is a bit glossy? Also, I would go a little easier on that pigment... doesn't really look natural on the front tire. As for the pics, you seem to be getting a very strong reflection from the lighting, have you tried simply covering the lightbulb with a cloth or something to diffuse the light? whenever you have direct shining you get those reflections. Also makes it hard to see how the OSL came out.

yeah I think it might be the gloss in the paint that gives me the strong reflections, like it messes with the white balance or something. I should probably take better pics in daylight and with a better camera.

The robe is pretty glossy but not as much as it looks in this photo, it looks more like leather than rubber!

Hmm maybe I should reconsider the dirt on the treads then? It is meant to look like it is caked in dried mud and dirt.

Gosh you have been a busy bee.

Nicely done and the two models compliment each other very nicely. He does look quite glossy in the pics so I am reassured that in the flesh he is leather not rubber....but i reckon it should be rubber so the blood from experiments just runs off.

The base on this one is much more interesting than the servitor...the colours are great.

Great stuff.

Love the tech priest. I think the mud on the treads works well, and the blood from the severed head is great.

If I'm not mistaken, white balance would be the overall color of the pic (like if everything had a yellow tint to it). It's really the light source that does it, but gloss will do the trick too. Daylight is usually good but you need a lot of cloud cover.

Personally I just prefer a really matte finish on fabrics... if you think about it that is probably the kind of fabric a monk or priest would wear. Probably the paint you're using, some paints like Vallejo Game color come out gloss.

I generally like the mud caked on, it's just that in some places, at first glance it's too much that it doesn't seem as if it were being picked up naturally by the treads as they move. Of course IRL you might not notice that at all.

Here are some slightly better pics, still not great but the daylight helps. Hopefully I will get a better camera soon and can re-shoot everything.

those pics are a lot better... came out way crisper for some reason.

As long as you have a decent camera with a macro shot on it, that should be enough in theory to take good pics... it's mostly about the lighting, good cameras won't get rid of those light reflections though.

Very nice! That heavy servitor is the bomb! It seems your paintstyle is also moving more towards Mr. Blanche's... not super clean, but it has that "grimdark junky dirty" popping from the page into a model.

I've always painted things to be dirty and grimy, ever since my Mordian Iron Guard army many moons ago (painted as if they had been in the trenches for a long time). But yeah, my style is changing a bit, mainly due to seeing Turska's guides (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/497254.page) on how to paint. For my money he is the most fantastic painter around so I've tried to emulate him somewhat. It's a much more painterly way of working, mainly washes and glazes and it feels right to me, compared to layering. Plus I love weathering powders and I love the lo-fi horror movie look. It's not all so grimy though, like the Eldar head is all nice and clean - I think my camera hasn't really captured it well.

Ahh Bruticus! Those are some excellent models! The walking tub-o-lard is twisted and disturbing, and the mud on the servitor is fantastic!

Now for something a bit different:

This is the Sump Thing, a living plant monster from murky depths of the sump! Furious at the hivers that have polluted his sump, and the gangs that have used the sump to dispose of corpses, the Sump Thing has turned his implacable wrath on the Underhive! The rotten corpses march with him from the depths!

I've made the Sump Thing and his zombie horde for a special Necromunda mini-campaign which includes variations on the 'It Came From the Sump' and 'Tales of the Underhive' scenarios - basically a rag-tag group of gangers team up to fend off the zombie hordes. Sump Thing is a cross between Swamp Thing (the Alan Moore run is amazing) and Man-Thing. To make things interesting, the Sump Thing will cause terror and any failed tests in hand to hand will cause you to spontaneously combust - whatever knows fear burns at the touch of the Sump Thing!

I've painted all this in a very short time mainly using the airbrush so they don't hold up to close scrutiny, but the overall effect is pretty good. Sump Thing is largely made from GS (if anyone can spot the base model I will be very impressed) and has lots of plants and mushrooms growing all over him. The zombies were all (very quickly) converted with vines and plant life growing all over them, made from GS, flock, textured paint and tissue paper.

I love that scenario! And he's bloody marvellous - love the horns, and the eyes, the proper image for an underhive legend. Like something out of a book of legends. The lichen effect you've got on all the zombies is fantastic.

I've said this before, but I'd absolutely kill to be part of your gaming group. The effort going into lovingly painted NPCs like that for NPCs would be so amazing.

Love the B-movie vibe, suits the whole theme perfectly. Ace!
