Will the game give us info about faction populations? Although I'd like to play TR, it seems that they are by far the most popular... I'd go NC if it was the 'decent' thing to do for the sake of faction demographics.

You get graphs but with multiple continents coming it should be a non issue as you get bonus xp and resources for going to a smaller side.

Any further news on when the open beta will start?

I'm envying those of you with access to the beta :/ a pity it's not open yet.

Mind you, Blacklight Retribution does perfectly fine as an FPS game, but I do kind of crave bigger battles (BL:R has up to 12v12 IIRC, although it might be 8v8).

lets put it this way, I parked a respawn point (sunderer) during a big battle this morning, got 5 points per respawn at it

an hour later we had taken the base and i was about 4000 points up

you also only get the arrow over the heads of most friendlies and enemies that infiltrators have spotted, there is always dramatically more dudes out there.

Well, the tank stuff I couldn't care less about.

Although destroying tanks, THAT is fun. Dedicated tank hunting is rarely good in most FPS games though, cause tanks are so rare. Is it useful in PS2?

Surprisingly, it seems fairly balanced at the time, with no faction being more than a couple percent apart. There's a built-in incentive/modifier if your faction is underpopulated, but it only applies to XP and resources - obviously to get more people to join up rather than making those that are already "in" more effective fighters.

That reminds me - whenever I (Medic) spot someone, he doesn't stay marked for more than 2-3 seconds. Is that working as intended? Do you have to "skill up" to make it stick longer? Is it a class-based thing?

Yeah, tanks are very common in Planetside 2. On top of that, the class with rocket launchers (Heavy Assault) also has an LMG, which is really good against infantry, and heavy armor to stay alive. They miss out on support abilities, but they're really useful in a firefight.

I jumped in last night after taking about a month off to find the servers reshuffled and my character wiped. Oh well! I'll miss my IRNV scope on my Cycler, but I'll get a new one. Looks like they've added in a lot of certs since I last played, so I've got my work cut out for me! Had a lot of fun tailgunning in a great Liberator last night. I shot down two Scythes, with a third getting killed by its own AA and a fourth burning right when I jumped out of the plane. Had some great luck running in circles around the top of an NC biolab as well, coming up behind snipers and gunning them down time and time again. They also added in some voice macros and more music; I heard the familiar Terran Republic victory music when we took some facilities. The game's really shaping up!

A big patch is rolling out this weekend with new weapons, new certs, and most importantly of all, a new continent! Esamir, the snow continent, is getting added. Check out Higby's preview stream from earlier tonight to catch up with the details:

It's not ready for the public yet, it really isn't. It's getting great but it can't handle that kind of population at the moment. They're finally reaching 2000 people per continent, but with only two servers that would only mean 8000 people total. Thankfully there are more performance upgrades in the making.

Had a BLAST today so much death and glory. First a huge saving priavte ryan style charge, open field, everyone taking cover at ridges from bulllets whizzing past us, explosions going off everywhere, planes being shot out the sky left right and centre.

Next time I logged on the EU server somehow all of Esamir was under NC control and so joined the struggle to defend the warp gate area. Everyone was on a hill and things werent going well. I decided it would be a good idea to show my true devotion to the Republic by taking my knife and charging down the hill into the heart of the NC, first time I almost got in range, almost. Few others joined me in fun charges to glory. We always nearly got to them and managed to take a couple out with our guns before we got in range of close combat. It felt so badass.

Playing Planetside 2 the true black templar way really got me hoping for more melee weapons, it was sooooo much fun despite dying frequently. If more weapons do get made I vowe to create a black templar vanguard outfit who get dropped off from galaxies in the heart of the enemy and unleash holy fury upon both the NC and the VS.

The NC must have thought the 3 people charging down the hill were crazy

Would that work? IT says it requires a 4850 or better card, I'm not sure if 6670 is better or just different. Meh?

Hehe that should well be enough I have a 5870 and it runs like a beaute in huge battles and dont forget they are constantly optimising the game so even low end PC's will eventually be able to get decent playability.

When I got into the beta, the fps was soooooo low, unplayable but now it's so smooth.

Melissia, keep in mind that the settings are both fairly high and not final. They're improving performance with almost every patch, so if things don't work too well, wait til the next patch in a week or two. I have a fairly beefy rig and couldn't run it terribly well until they improved performance. Now it runs like butter.

Indeed and word on the street is, well actually this is pretty common knowledge., it runs better when you are with the Republic

The card's already bought, just waiting for it to arrive in the mail.

The one I have is six or seven years old anyway.

It has been quite some time since I played Planetside (the Original) and I have to say the new aircraft controls are quite strange. They will take some getting used to.

The only thing I really do not like is the Stealth suit. They messed the Stealth suit up. It used to be Awesome in PS1, but now it is just Meh.

Is there any way to change your weapons on your Max suits?

and what is with the jump pack guys? that will take a second to get used too as well.
