Is winning you only goal is losing the end of the world ?

For me it having fun, RAW, RAI it matters not , all i ask is the dice are fair i don't get completely trounced and that i can field an army of models i like and not be forced into units and models i don't like just for the sake of winning

Tournaments aside why do you play this game? and do you play your game with models you like? or do you get forced down the uber tournament list route

Usually when I play games with friends my end goal is to lose in as epic way possible. This may include destroying as much as possible - in games where gathering points from proper placement of resources will win you the game.

In Warhammer my real goal is to learn to play better.

Other than that, I play to motivate myself to paint. And I paint to motivate myself to play.

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

Having a good time, if i win then "cool", if i lose then "oh well not the end of the world", If i draw then i'm like "?".
Remember the most inportant rule in the game, the rule where you have fun

Well, I guess I'll be the first to say it.

I like to win. A lot. I'm not WAAC, and I won't really go crazy with lists and other shenangins to ensure visctory, but I deffinately like to win. I have crazy lists I bring out against friends, but I deffinatley enjoy coming out on top.

I do enjoy winning quite a bit, but I enjoy making my opponent's army feel useless through denial tactics.

For example, focusing the anti-tank things in his army and then rolling out my Land Raider from the confines of cover.

As anyone who plays a game, I do enjoy winning as much as the next guy. However, what I enjoy the most is winning with a fairly fluffy list. There is nothing cooler than FEELING like your army, when you are winning as them. Zooming around in my sleek transports and only jumping out at the right moment, sending waves upon waves of infantry up the field to their death with huge firepower backing up their support, and a mass CC army that spearheads towards the enemies hardest units. All good times, all fluffy. However, sometimes my desire to play fluffy gets me punished on the field....worth it every time.

It's all about the story. My imagination is pretty good so having the army I'm attached to tell a good story on the battlefield mean's I'm happy. If everyone continuously dies every game I play, then yeah, I'm not having fun either.. one can only take so much of genocide and not feel the need of returning it.

40k for me is an outlet for my suppressed sense of professionalism.

In each one of the many jobs I've had over the past 6 years, I've never had an employer who ever cared what I had to say, or who ever invested in me as an employee. I've never been part of an industry. Never had a career path.

Meanwhile, in the world of 40k, I can try things out, and develop skills, and innovate, and be rewarded for hard work. It gives me an opportunity to actually be good at something.

None of which has been true for the various temp jobs, contract work, and general part time minimum wage, often for tips, loser nonsense I've been stuck working in all these years.

As such, I'm stuck with 40k. That or maybe I should become a Zen Buddhist...

I play to have fun first. And if that means I lose a close game so be it. I also do like to win. So I will try to do that first and foremost. But I also dont play spam lists and only play the stuff I wanna play. So typically I lose, but when I win it's that much better!!!

I like putting my models down and realizing my army looks better than my opponent's...

Lol, seriously, I enjoy a close game with a reasonable person. I don't care how well or poorly I do, if I am playing against a wiener, it isn't going to be fun.

I just really love the wacky unexpected things that happen due to the random elements of the game. I recently had a game where I had the choice between turning my land raider with a half squad of CSMs around to reinforce my objective, and receive a guaranteed draw, or charge it forwards and try and knock the enemy off his objective. Of course I chose the crazy charge route. I ended up losing the game, but if given the choice, I would do the exact same thing again if given the choice. IMO you've gotta go big or go home. 40k is the place for epic tales of victory and loss, and if I have to make a move that is absolutely not the most tactically sound choice in order to make it happen, I absolutely will. At least in a casual game.

I want to win, but I want to win in a way that my opponent has fun and can not fault anything. In a way that makes my opponent say "Well, you beat me fair and square. That was a good game. I had fun"

Make all this painting worth something I guess. I enjoy the social time and enjoy the game. So a tie between fun and the craft aspects of the hobby. Though a nice close game is always fun too, getting blown out of the water is not fun.
