West Point

I am new to the area and NY and find the gaming community abysmally underwhelming. Prove me incorrect and tell me where the action is in the West Point area withough going all the way to NYC!

There are a few places I know in the capital region and points north.

My FLGS is Dirty goblin games, in Glens falls, about an hour north of Albany. In Albany there is Zombie planet and flights of fantasy games. I have been to both places to shop/browse, but not gamed there. IIRC West Point is half way between NYC and Albany, so this won't be closer, but you won't have to deal with city traffic/parking/etc.

Sorry to not be more help, but I'm north of Albany myself, so don't get much farther south.

I am in Beacon / Fishkill just north of Westpoint on the East side of the River . Would be up for trying out some 6th Edition games if you are interested .

Poughkeepsie has Dragon's Den, it's about 45 minutes from West Point. I've been there a few times, but I've never played there, and don't know what kind of community they've got. I've never seen anyone playing anything there, but they carry some WFB/40k stock, as well as FOW and a lot of other stuff.

Catskill has Kirwan's Game Store, it's probably about an hour and a half from west point. It's a big, roomy store with a lot of tables and plenty of elbow room. I've played a few games there and had a lot of fun. Catskill's a small town, but from what I've seen they have a good showing on 40k night. I've seen people playing Warmachine/Hordes there, as well.

And, as mentioned above, Albany has Flights of Fantasy and Zombie Planet, and they're both about two hours from you. It's been a few years since I played at either, however, but I remember there being a good player base in Albany.

You might be better off finding a game or store south of you, in Rockland or Westchester counties. I've been told there's a club out of White Plains, but I don't know where they meet up. In the city, there's almost always a game going on at the Games Workshop on 8th and Broadway, and I've heard that Compleat Strategist, on 33rd and 5th, has a 40k club, as well (though I've never played there).

I live in westchester county myself. The closest store i've managed to find is dragons den. They have tabletop gaming there weekly, but everybody has moved on to Warmachine. If that's youre thing you should be fine, but i only play 40k and whenever i go in they just try to push me to buy a different game, so i havent gone back in a while...

Yeah, Dragon's Den isn't really a game store anymore as much as a Magic the Gathering store where they occasionally play other games.
