Just another quick update, we're starting to preview the stretch goals as we fight to catch up with the overwhelming response, having unexpectedly hit over 400% funding in just four days. I've now posted up the concept sketch of our Gatling Cannon, and an early work in progress render of the Autocannon.

As a result of the unexpected demand, we've capped our earlier pledges which have now nearly been entirely filled, and opened up some new ones which are also filling rapidly. We've also made the difficult decision to not add further stretch goals until we're ready to deliver on our existing promisses. We'd rather deliver everything on schedule then keeping adding more! That said though, I'm confident we'll catch up ahead of the campaigns conclusion and we have plans to add what we're calling the 'Gatling Mortar', additional crew, accessories, and hopefully more!

Once again, thankyou to everyone who has supported us so far!

BroomM, standard Mortars are definately on the reserve list, its an option I'd like to see go next really as I think its a practical choice that many people might get some milage out of.

That said, Kenshin, a few people have mentioned a flame/steam cannon of some description now, and it would be a fun option to design - we'll see how things progress!

A larger Artillery piece is pretty much beyond the scope of this campaign, while its tempting to push the boundaries, to get a finished design and do all pricing before the end of the campaign would be difficult, especially given we're already playing catch up. I'm taken by the idea though, so one way or another you can expect to see it as a future project.

Hi Guys,
I am absolutely flabbergasted by the response to this kickstarter I had had high hopes but not this high .

the second image above was never really for public consumption as I was only playing with shapes and the basic mechanics of the gun.

The concept which is not very clear at the moment is a double barrelled autocannon which is crossed with a piston. As the wheel turns the barrels move in and out loading and ejecting shells as they go.

Question is I really like the double barrel idea but could understand why you might want a single barrel.

Feedback at this stage is greatly appreciated - I am gearing up for Salute in London 20th April and hope to have the 3D print on the stand. So please come and say hi!

Cheers

Well that sounds like an... interesting... mechanic to say the least but you've pleasantly surprised me before so you've got me quite curious now
Also, do you have your own 3D printer or are lead times on getting a print done nowadays so short you actually do stand a chance in hell of getting a print of something not finished now yet done and delivered before the 20th?

I apologise if this has already been asked, but would it eventually be possible to get the 28mm Carriage from the tank laser set separately, I love the carriage personally, and want to mount my Imperial guard heavy weapons on it, but the aesthetic of the laser disagrees with me.

Thanks!

Kit, thanks for elaborating on the mechanics and design behind the Autocannon - I should of done, opps!

But yes, look out for Kit on his stand TM06, Zinge Industries at Salute!

Bolognesus, no we are contracting out the printing to another UK based firm. Time scales, well we'll see!

Rustgob, yes, the carriage will be available seperately in the store later on, but don't overlook that they already are available on Kickstarter, there are a capped number of sets of 3 or 6 carriages available as the £27 and £50 pledges.

I like the idea of paired barrels for the auto cannon,

lots of modern aa guns use two (or four) paired weapons to boost firing rate so it seems a logical solution

I'd like some sort of fancy flash suppressor/recoil adjuster at the end (as long as it's castable, LOL)

True enough on it reflecting many modern and historical autocannon type weapons there Orlando! Don't worry, details like the flash suppressor will appear, the picture is literally just a concept of how the weapon will function effectively.

lol sorry Viktor, at least you'll be putting it to good use!

In the second Chronicles of Narnia movie IIRC one of the battle scenes had these rapid firing trebuchets, multi-armed war engines, almost like a windmill, that when one arm was going up and hurling the projectile (a round stone ball) a second was on it's way down and scooping up another ball ready to fire, a pretty cool idea

Its as if Da Vinci looked at the medieval trebuchet design and thought ''i can so improve this!'' kudos to the guys who thought this up for the movie

The movie design used two counterweights to keep the arms turning in perpetual motion to keep the weapon firing, there was a store of ammo balls almost on a ramp so when one was scooped up and fired another rolled down to be fired next

Now obviously, these are massive fortress bashers but the idea could be scaled down to fit the gun carriage (like the old Ork Squig catapult), instead of counterweights you could power it by cogs and gears to keep it steampunk, or maybe piston driven or even hand cranked! Instead of stone balls for ammunition it could fire exploding cannonballs with some kind of delayed fuse.

That is an interesting idea actually VikingsChild, potentially scales quite well as a Trench Catapult maybe? Lobbing Grenades!

In the meantime, a nice little update.

First up are renders of the unlocked Rocket Launcher addition, designed by Faolan and mounted on Kit Burrows carriage, it is inspired by the 19th century Congreve Rocket Launcher.

We've also added a new extra, a rugged little tractor unit ideal for shifting ammunition, or even towing the artillery pieces with an option hook. Another multi-part resin kit, designed by Faolan, it measure about 5.5cm in length.

We've also added some new pledge reward options, and I can confirm that the Carriage and Anti-Tank Laser itself has now been printed - this should now be on show at Salute this weekend on the Zinge Industries stand!

Love the wee tractor unit - as well as the intended use, it would also make a great base for conversions - e.g. a motorised artillery carriage or grot tank or daemonic engine, even an alternate dread/dredd base.

Update time

Update #5 · Apr 26, 2013 · 5 comments

Another day, another update! This time just a work in progress shot of the Artillery Crew as requested. However, please keep in mind these are still work in progress, none of them are finished as of yet.

The crewmen will be available in two sets of three, with one kneeling figure and two standing per set, they will be complete figures using Curious Constructs existing Dress Uniform torso's and Pith Helmetted heads in addition to the legs you see taking shape here, and of course most importantly, the arms! I was a little disappointed to not have made more progress on these by now, I can only apologiese for that, it's simply down to a shortage of sculpting time on my part. I had hoped to be able to show the finished pieces by now, but decided something was better then nothing - the figures should be completed ahead of next weekend though.

A single random set of three different artillery crew is an additional £6.00 which can be added to existing pledges, alternatively a set including all six artillery crew figures can be added to existing pledges for £12.00. You may opt to receieve up to ten sets of crewmen in any combination of three and six man sets.

In addition, anyone who selects 1+ £12.00 or 2+ £6.00 artllery crew sets as part of their rewards will also recieve one copy of 'the Bombardier', which is the character figure taking shape in the foreground on the right. This figure will also be available separately in limited numbers - but not until the sculpt itself is finished.

One last bit for this update, something else you may be interested in, in the shape of the components of the Rocket Launcher. Do note though there will probably only be two or three 'spare' rockets - we'll see what we can fit in the mould!

Cheers Ketara!

Clang, totally agreed, there are lots of potential uses and conversion possibilities with the Mule - we do intend to expand on it with some other kits based on the same chasis in the future as well - I've got a hankering for one driven by a vat-grown human with mechanical parts

Only five days left until the end of the campaign now, and here's another preview of the work in progress Autocannon design.

Hiya Folks - a bit of a mid-morning update.

We're after a little bit more feedback, concerns on the clips and mechanism aside (Kit has given a brief explanation in the Comments on Update #6), would you prefer to see the Autocannon use conventional shells, cannonballs (as below) - or do you not have a preference?

Let us know!

Cheers,

Rob

My response was

I much prefer conventional shells,

cannon balls go a retro step too far (for me)

I would suggest the magazine to the lower barrel is sticks up less than the other one, to indicate that it plugs into the lower barrel, the slight stagger as we see now doesn't seem to represent this

One Last Stretch - Multiple Rocket Launcher (Nebelwerfer)

Update #9 · Apr 30, 2013 · 1 comment

Hiya folks,

Faolan, who designed the Rocket Launcher has been putting together a Multiple Rocket Launcher styled on the Nebelwerfer. As I've discussed previously, I had'nt planned to add any further stretch goals, not least because Kit has had his hands full those those we're already committed too! However, since this one is essentially ready to go, and the way I look at it there is nothing to lose, I've made the decision to have a punt with this weapon as a final stretch goal! I hope you'll approve, or at least not object!

As its a fairly extensive weapon in terms of size and components, production cost is looking set to be fairly high, so to keep the goal realistic at this late stage it will NOT be free for existing backers as was the case with our other unlocked weapons. Instead if we unlock it, it will be an additional option which will be available to add to your pledge at £4.00 per weapon. I'm sorry for this deviation from the formula we used for the first four weapon stretch goals, but I'm afraid it's simply not viable for me to do it another way at present. However, as a benefit the additional stretch amount is lower then it otherwise would be. It seems sensible to give it a better chance of becoming available then to make a completely unrealistic goal with the promise of more extra items.

So that in mind, this new stretch goal is set at £5300, I have no idea if we'll reach it or not, but there we go!

Now enough waffel, and time for some pictures!

This is still work in progress, and as ever, feedback is very welcome!

Cheers,

Rob

Blimey Orlando, you beat me to the punch again! Thank you! One slight clarification though, the Multiple Rocket Launcher if unlocked will be £5.00 each rather then £4.00, sorry about the confusion there, I thought I caught it but did'nt!
