Was rooting around in my cupboards the other day, and came across my old doomtown decks from about the year 2000. Sweetrock mining company and the Sioux union. There was almost a tear in my eyes as I remembered a game (which IMO was far superior to Magic) which had a great story line and a pretty neat approach to deck construction with the whole poker hands.

Anybody else ever play it? Here's hoping that it will make a return one day. The Deadlands RPG is still up and running?

Suffolk, where the Aliens roam.

It was one of those ones I glanced at on occasion but it came at me at the wrong time, a few years earlier or later and I'd been all over it.

I was deep into Legend of the 5 rings, Babylon 5 and Vampire the Eternal Struggle/Jyhad at that point and had no time for another CCG.

It did look damn nice though, plus done by the folks who did L5R, so I assume it would have played well too.

Nice looking cards on top of that, typical as well, I've grown a much stronger interest in the Wild West era in the past five or so years.

Yeah, it's a shame that it folded. Had more depth to it than L5R, and it was easier to relate to the wild west than to feudal Japan.

I remember the game, bought a few decks, never played it. And I was the FLGS' "Deadlands Guy" for a while.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

Remember it? Why it was one of the best CCGs out there hands down! Every game was a fantastic and/or hilarious story and never a dull moment. Well, that is, as a game among friends with a shared card pool (but isn't that always the case?). Tried a tourney once and that left a bad taste in my mouth...shame on you AEG for letting playtesters with cards from an UNRELEASED set enter and play...winning all the prizes and SELLING their playtest cards at the venue. ...(sigh), Rage subsiding.....

My favorite faction has always been BlackJacks (both BlackJacks and Rachel's Gang)...although I made a pretty mean Agency deck built around "commandeering" deeds and dudes in the name of the US Government

My old gaming group used to play that all the time. We all invested pretty heavily in it and had a blast. Way better than playing MTG as the story unfolded in the game. My friends absolutely hated my Texas Rangers legal deck that had cheat busters in it.

I played it regularly, I've got tons of it, and I would love to play it again if anyone in my area is into it.

The best thing that could happen to it would be if Fantasy Flight Games were able to get the rights to it and release it as one of their Living Card Games.

I would so love that to happen...but would be wary at the same time. Like should cards be re-released? Or would there be some tweaks and a reformatting so that older cards couldn't be used. Because if you're asking me to give up Rachel's Gang...I may not play a newer version of Doomtown....

Personally I would love to see a re-release with all the errata accounted for.....

From my understanding, the Android Netrunner LCG that was just released was a very faithful rerelease of Netrunner. I did not play the original, so this is going off second hand information. Apparently some new stuff was added, some stuff removed, but kept the spirit and flavor of the original.

I loved Doomtown, I started with the first set and followed up through mouth of hell. The story switch with pine box and the limited sets sorta deraield me as I had no clue what was going on at that point. The game was great and I miss it. Still have most of my cards and wish I knew people that could play it once in a while.

Wouldn't work for a FFG LCG, as the whole point is no card hunter or random crap. Everyone can get the set card by just buying the packs, but if it followed there other LCG, when Rachels's Gang (if not part of the starter) will come out in cycle of packs giving you everything you need for a her deck. Downside the really good card means you have to buy the card pack 2-3 times if you want to run a deck with max of them, but most cards one pack gives you max card for a deck.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

It'd be no different from the other LCG. I'd rather know that I could spend $10 (from an online seller) for the newest release 4 times and be guaranteed to get the cards I wanted, instead of spending $4 per pack of cards and just hoping to get the ones I want. Any way you slice it, it is better in the long run to go non-random than random. Random only benefits the resellers in the secondary market. Non-random benefits FFG, the primary retailer, and the customer. The customer buys x copies of the release, to get a card X times. This is more sales for the retailer and FFG, but also confirms exactly how much the customer needs to spend.
