I'll just get the bug fixed - hopefully for this weekend. There are a couple of bugs with it, but the fix should get them all.

Check out our new, fully plastic tabletop wargame - Maelstrom's Edge, made by Dakka!

The extended tags makes quoting a hassle. There are already enough posts that are poorly formatted, it seems to have gotten noticably worse.
Not that any true programmer should bother about functionality when he can cram as many features as possible in, obviously.

Apart from lengthening it, which isn't exactly a hassle, how does it cause a hassle?

Lego has included a feature that appears to have overwhelmingly positive support, so maybe you could not sling gak and move on?

Testify has a point, I've seen a few posts where a space was missed out and you get something like this:

I've had a few problems with quotes today that I haven't noticed before. Specifically, it's dropping the /quote tag, it seems. I've had it happen twice when I was quoting a post that had another post quoted in it.

I rather like it.

Quote pyramids were already stupid and annoying anyway, so this doesn't really change that.

While applaud the work put into this improvement, I have one request. Some of us have avatars turned off and I don't want to see them even in the reply header. Can you make the display of these avatars respect the option to not display the avatars?

Why would you turn off avatars, and yet still have one?

Because I turned off avatars well after I uploaded one. And just because I have no desire to see them does not mean others don't find them useful.

I have a background in web design/development, as well as being a user of the site.
Having random strings of code everywhere is very ugly. To a newcommer it looks amateurish.
Just being balanced.

I'd like that.

I can see why people like it, but personally I'm a bit of a minimalist when it comes to forums - and to be honest, that uberlong code in the tag makes it somewhat more cumbersome to separate posts from different people when quoting them. An option to just turn it off would be superb.

Posting in the Off Topic is honestly becoming a chore. About a quarter of the posts there are incorrectly formatted.

Please fix this?

Another quote bug for your attention if you haven't seen it yet, Lego. When you type this:

It comes up with this, adding wtf before the quoted source's name:

Wikipedia wrote:The kilt is a knee-length garment with pleats at the rear, originating in the traditional dress of men and boys in the Scottish Highlands of the 16th century. Since the 19th century it has become associated with the wider culture of Scotland in general, or with Celtic (and more specifically Gaelic) heritage even more broadly. It is most often made of woollen cloth in a tartan pattern.

ha ha! Sorry, I forgot to take that broken code marker out. A nice insight into the development process there I'll get the fix up in a bit, thanks for reporting.
