Hello to all at Dakka Dakka, I've been in the hobby for about 4 Years now, and I've recently started reading the Horus Heresy series from Black Library. I've just finished "Know No Fear" (I loved it) and the Ultramarines in there just seemed soo much cooler than 'modern' ones, so I decided to start a Pre-Heresy/Heresy era Chapter . (also itt was a good excuse for a Forgeworld Army!)

So here we are ,the first post on my (hopefully) sucsessful blog, just to start off, some WIP shots of my first Combat squad. C&C are welcome on ALL my posts, and please do comment!

Jacobus.

Those are some nice looking ultramarines.
I agree that they were much cooler in the days before he heresy.
Apparently, 10,000 years of worshipping a false emperor has made them soft.

Welcome to dakka! I do love me some FW marines and you seem to be doing a pretty decent job from what I can see!

You will want to find a moderator to move this whole page to the blogs section though, atm it is in the intro bit so very few people are going to see it!

Here is my question for people doing Pre-heresy marine armies: How do you explain them being armed with post-heresy pattern bolters?

1)Because the bolter has not changed that much in the marks.

2)It still looks awesome.

3)£10.50 for 10 bolters is alot of money.

I Undercoat Black, then use some thinning medium to thin GW Macragge Blue. then wash with GW Drakenhof Nightshade. I then layer with Macragge again, then With GW altdorf Blue then Edges with GW Calgar blue, I then thin GW Guilliman blue and glaze with that. Please let me know if I should post a tutorial

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

IceAngel wrote:I must say Knightley, I am very envious of your squiggle ability. I mean, if squiggles were a tactical squad, you'd be the sergeant. If squiggles were an HQ, you'd be the special character. If squiggles were a way of life, you'd be Doctor Phil...

Thanks! But I don't get on with drakenhoff nightshade. I might have just got a bad pot or something so I ended up making my own inky wash. I think it looks good, but it is too late for me to start re-painting my army now. But thanks for letting me know (I might have to sneak it in somewhere with my marines!). Also I think a tutorial would be great!

Ok, I shall post a tutorial on how I paint My Ultramarines when I get my next box from FW!

In regards to the problem with the Drakenhof, do you mean it gets rather blotchy, because if so, thats the entire reason I re-layer the majority of the model in the Base of Macragge blue ( I leave the Deepest recesses for some depth).

Quick question; Can a generic Marine Chapter Master take two thunder-hammers, because some of my friends at my local GW have been saying he can't!

I would be really grateful for this info, as I am trying to convert this guy:

The chapter master can change his bolt pistol for a thunderhammer and his bolter for a thunder hammer so yes he can have two!
It is an expensive option as the second TH only gives +1 A, and under the new specialist weapons rules the same could be done by giving a lightning claw for fewer points and more flexibility. (i.e. use TH for S8 I1 or use LC for S4 +shred and I5).

However the Chapter master in the codex is clearly not bothered by tactical considerations, only smashing enemies of the emperor and looking cool while doing it

Woohoo!, I can continue with this conversion then!

So I'm thinking of using the BT Emperor's champion as the base for my conversion of my chapter master, do people think he's too Post-Heresy? I thought so until I remembered that the Ultramarines wear a battle plate called 'Proteus pattern' Or something, so I would use this as the representation of that!

Please comment Y/N

Welcome to dakka! Awesome Ultramarines BTW. The emperors champion has preheresy armour, so no to your question. He has mark 3 i think.

Hey dude, since somebody has "kindly" (ridiculously), resurrected this thread... (Gonads does this, ALOT... hence his massive post count, pff)

I thought I'd take another chance to invite you to Animosity in December. Heres a link to our dakka thread,

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/440020.page

We're also hosting a pre-heresy event in March if that floats your boat? There are a surprising lack of smurfs doing the rounds in the Age of the Emperor games so it'd be cool to see some cool blues!

Thanks for your time... if you read this ancient thread!
