Numberless Necron Warrior

I have a friend who has an ork army and he was wondering if he should get some ork gretchins.
I wanted to ask the people of Dakka, are they worth it, is their any good tactics to them?
Any replys would be great.

My friend who plays Ork's who has 1 squad of them.
- If you place them behind a Aegis defence line, unless your unit is in a evelated position, you can't draw line of sight to them, there so small!
- Use them to protect your Big Mek with Shokk Attack Gun, taking any LoS! on 2+ and putting it onto the gretchin.
Hope it helped

So what are their purposes on the battlefield if my friend doens't have a Big Mek, vehicles, or an Aegis defense line.
Are they not worth his money to get right now?

Well, they are cheap objective holders.
But aside from that, they probably arn't worth the $. They are very expensive models.

Thank you I'll try to convince him not to waste his money on it and to try for a battleforce which would help him alot.

Sadly, the Ork battleforce doesn't really save you much money. I think its like $3 of savings

Ok, I just didn't want him getting the Battalion solely because of savings(maybe bypassing the fact he didn't totally want one or more things in the box)

No it don't. You save like £15.50 (Battleforce---£65 20 boyz, 3 bikes and a trukk---£80.50)
But grots are good meat shields and are ok for objective holding imo

I can see it now....Nids are now a collection of autonomous hive fleets there are multiple Hive Minds and they all war with one another in addition to everyone else. They speak to humans using telepathy, and they can now ally with Space Wolves as battle brothers, because reasons.
Tyranids talking to humans would be like you talking to your mashed potatoes or the probiotic in your kiefer drink. It is neither possible nor productive. Inside my mind I pinched my nipples and savored his bitter silence.

Wait what, he doesn't have grots. Who else can put down a 40pt unit that can count as a scoring, can go to cover and infuriate opposing forces. Those pesky little blighters have won me games, and saved many a draw for what are next to nothing points. Hell even when I running a speed freak based list, I'll drop 40pts on some grots to hold my base board objective if it comes up.

Hmmm, the Battleforce must not have gone up in price last round of Hikes.

They're not that expensive; it's 10 grots and a herder for $16.50 before discounts which isn't terrible. The dollar to point ratio isn't great but the models are a lot of fun to paint. Even so, you can kitbash them with Fantasy goblins and get some distinctive models going.
They're well used as a 10 man squad with a herder to hide on an objective for 40 points, or move forward ahead of your Ork boyz.

DE for one
I run 3-4 man wrack units all the time
That said, grot units are awesome, especially if you have a minefield you need to clear

How much is a gretchin?
My friend keeps on saying he wants a big group of them and he is gonig to win through sheer amount of attacks.
Is that a viable tactic, could it be done?

3 points a grot, $16.50 for 10 plus a Runtherder which totals up to 40 points. They're really awful on a one for one basis, but you can get tons of them for dirt cheap.

It would be a viable tactic if grots didn't suck at cc.
They are decent shots (BS 3) with cruddy guns, and lousy at CC.
They only have one attack each (barring charging) and are both weedy and inaccurate (low S and WS)
Mased attacks also only works if you can actally get everyone in base to base, or within 2'' of someone who is. Large mobs often can't/
What grots excel at is being a mobile wall for boyz, and sitting on objectives in deserted parts of the battlefield.

If he really wants grots, I'd suggest hitting Bartertown or EBay and looking for the old 2nd edition grots.

Yup.
About half of mine are the old monopose 2nd ed ones, with the autoguns.
They are cheap as chips on Ebay, and looks pretty decent en-masse.
You would have to buy a few herders for them seperately, or convert them from AOBR nobs. You can get then pretty cheaply on ebay also, as single mini buys or older edition ones..

You don't even need Nobz; Runtherds are just Ork Boyz with whips.

That works too
Most ork players i know have more spare AOBR nobs that they aren't using than spare ork Boyz, though
AThe crew bodies from battlewagons also make excellent Runtherdz, using the spare options from the Runtherd sprue and a few odds and sods from the bitz box..

Grotz are:
- Cheap backfield objective holders
- Mobile cover save for boyz if you don't have/want a KFF
- Tarpits against expensive units with a mediocre number of attacks (wraithlords, dreadnoughts, defilers and so on)
