Subject: WW2 Themed IG..I know unique right?

Well Gents,
I am making a small (500 pts) IG army for friendly play. With that being said, I ordered 3x Wargames Shock Troopers, lots of West Wind Heads, traded for some IG arms/lasgun bits, 4x Chimera, 2x LRBTs, 40x Valhallans, 40x Steel Legion, and some sentinels. Lot's of stuff for this project! I am thinking I may end up only using the Wargames Troopers, and possibly trading/selling the Valhallans/Steel Legion guys, but I am not too sure. Ideas here?
Anyway, I ask you guys about different color schemes? I was thinking about doing a WW2 American Winter Uniform, but I am unsure on the coloring. Also I am unsure with the coloring for the tanks? I guess a simple olive drab would look best? Any advice/ideas would be nice. I haven't started the assembly yet, I am going to wait to figure out my color scheme before the assembling/stripping of some of the items.
Thanks in advance gents.

For the Tanks i have an idea for you.
When it turned winter the US tanks stood out in the snow with their olive drab colors. To counter this. the crew were endlessly mixing buckets of WHite Wash to paint on there tanks.
The base coat could be the Standard Olive drab color but on top of that could be the crews attempt to cover their tank in White Wash or some other White paint substance. If done correctly i think it would work.
Try it out if you want a Winter War look for the tanks.

Hello my friend!
The ideas for your Imperial Guard are sounding quite good! You have a lot of stuff already in the pipeline that I can't wait to see ready for battle!

Well, if you think about it, those Wargames Factory Troops are quite reminiscent of WWII Germans. Maybe you could sell the Valhallans -as they appear more Russian-, then, you could possibly buy more Steel Legion or Shock Troops, or Cadian bits. Keep the Steel Legion though. Perhaps they could pose as a Stormtrooper squad, appearing as Fallschirmjager.
Due to their German appearance, you could go for Field Grey fatigues, with white smocks or autumn Pea Dot/Splinter camouflage. If you do choose to go with that, there is a nice simple Pea Dot camo Youtube tutorial by 'TheVoodooOrk'.
Here's some inspiration!
Good Luck!

Thanks, I am thinking about that. I need to figure what table I am going to play this army on, more than likely though it will be an urban table, so I am not so sure about the white wash, although it does look pretty good. I will think about it

Thanks, I am thinking of trying to avoid the German look and try and replicate a more American one. I have seen German Army Steel Legion before, and it is just not my cup of tea. Thanks for the advice though gents!

Oh, they look very nice!
They really remind me of the 'Band of Brothers' episode in Bastogne.
I can't wait to see these guys painted up!
I understand that you don't want to go down the German road of things...
So, I'll provide you with some alternate inspiration!

Okay, well I know everyone loves pictures right? Well here are a few of the prototypes along with my workspace!
I am going to fart around some more tomorrow/weds and see if I can get a guy painted up for the rest of the army. I will probably paint one of the Chimera as well.

Did somebody say white washing!? It's super easy! Just paint the tank as normal, then use white paint (I use the "dry" white from GW) and drybrush the armor, leaving color showing in the recesses. If you want more WW2 IG ideas, check out my Red Army-themed Valhallans, link's in my sig!

Brother SRM, I am definitely going to be using those tips for the tanks. I am debating though between snow or urban. Although a nice balance would be snow urban! I love your army so far!

Be a good excuse to watch some old war movies, which served as my inspiration several times. Battle of the Bulge, Kelly's Heroes, To Hell and Back and the colorized version of The Longest Day could give you tons of inspiration. On Olive Drab, the U.S. Army doesn't have a specific shade that is considered 'correct' so you may see several shades that are considered appropriate. Chromate Yellow and Lamp Black were the colors used for armor by the U.S. forces, but the ratio of the colors could vary widely as the G.I.s in the field were the ones doing the mixing.
