I was watching a video on Miniwargaming and a necron player took 3 ghost arks with only 2 squad of warriors, as far as I am aware since it is dedicated you can only take it as a dedicated transport and cannot take them on their own or did this change in 6th edition?
Here is a link to the video if anyone wants to see what I am referring to.

You still can not take them on their own.
You can deploy them empty, but there needs to be a squad that purchased it as its DT.

I mentioned that in the comments for the video and a person called me out on it saying you were allowed to, before I replied I wanted to be sure I had not missed anything.
Thanks

This is illegal. You must buy a unit in order to purchase a Dedicated Transport for the unit.
I believe in previous editions you were able to buy a Dedicated Transport with no unit, but it occupied a Heavy Support slot. Don't quote me on that though...

You need a troops choice before you can buy a dedicated transport.
What he did is illegal.

You've never been able to buy dedicated transports on their own. The fact that they're bought for a unit is what makes them dedicated transports.
Some codexes have had vehicles with a transport capability that were purchased separately (as with the Land Raider in most Marine codexes), but those aren't dedicated transports... they're just vehicles that can transport units.

What FOC would a dedicated transport be taken separably for? Iv never seen a codex with the option to a dedicated transport on its own... seems kinda not dedicated.

In the Spearhead expansion you could take Dedicated Transports as a Heavy Support choice, as long as it was part of a spearhead formation.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

They may transport Overlords, Lords, Crypteks and Special Characters but none of those have the option to buy a Ghost Ark. As the posters above have said, you need to buy a Warrior squad to buy a Ghost Ark but you don't need to put the Warriors in the GA. You can theoretically fill one up with a full Royal Court of 5 Lords and 5 Crypteks if you really wanted to.
