Hello there Dakka! I've been toying with some ideas for my 6th edition Space Wolves Army. I came up with a pretty solid core (I hope ) and would like to know what Dakka thinks would really help support this list at 2000 points.

Elites

Wolf Guard Pack 220
5 Wolf Guard
5 Terminator Armor
2 w/ Combi-Meltas
3 w/ Storm Shields

Troops

Grey Hunter Pack x 3 555
10 Grey Hunters
2 Plasma Guns
Wolf Standard
Mark of the Wulfen

Grey Hunter Pack x 2 370
8 Grey Hunters
Meltagun
Wolf Standard
Mark of the Wulfen
Drop Pod

Heavy Support

Long Fangs Pack x 2 350
6 Long Fangs
5 Missile Launchers
Drop Pod

The way I plan on using this list is to keep the Long Fangs with a clear LoS to the enemy to provide fire support. The Grey Hunters on foot are lead by the Wolf Guard with Storm Shields to take advantage of that good save. I still plan on trying to LoS the AP 1-2 shots onto regular guys, but the shields are there for protection just in case. The Drop Pods with Grey Hunters I'll let hang out in reserve and slam the 2 others down on first turn to block off LoS to my main forces so they can (hopefully) march up to the enemy in a little bit more cover/safety. The core comes out to 1495 so I've got a good 505 left to spend. I am tempted to put those points into some TWC to run with them since I love that part of the Space Wolves. What does Dakka say?

I think the drop pod thing sounds a little off. Though it is a tactic I sometimes use with a drop pod army against certain armies.
I think read that as against 'nids.

So far seems solid enough. I would bring a rune priest. Then probably a wolf priest with saga of the hunter, it will give a good number of options to your army.

Then the usual ADL with quadgun.

This list is nearly common, just a slightly different approach to getting the grey hunters into the action.

It's sad that it comes down to the standard core once more in this edition. My biggest disappointment with the Space Wolves is having to rely on your core so heavily. I was tempted to do the Wolf/Guardsman combo and focus on taking the more offensive of the Space Wolf Codex and relying on the pure numbers IG can bring in their Troop slot.

I don't think you need 3 storm shields in your wolf guard. 90 points for three wargear items is just too expensive.

Add some vehicles and this list looks almost identical to my own.

I'm concerned about adding vehicles because of target saturation. The reason I went with drop pods was because my supporting element was most likely going to be thunderwolves, thus my only vehicles would be drop pods. I'm just not a huge fan of the vehicles that the Space Marines (any of them) can put out. I haven't had much experience with the 6th play style yet though. So maybe I worry too much.

I don't understand the 2nd Drop Pod just for the sake of 'having vehicles'. Did I miss something?

Per GrugKnuckle's suggestion, I'd throw in a CML or AssCan. Moar Dakka!

Yeah, the DP here is just weird.

I recommend getting a ADL with Quadgun for flier goofery, manning it with one LF with an extra body *or* an attached, no frills Rune Priest, with ChooserofSlain. With CotS, the RP can man the Quadgun, as the higher BS to be *really* certain to deal out a Hull Point or two per turn. Given Fire Control, you can have the heavy weps shoot something else, or with no Flier threats, use the Quadgun's dakka to augment the LFs.

Hmm... Maybe the confusion is from the format of the list. I shrunk the format down to avoid a wall of text. My list has a total of 4 drop pods. 2 with Grey Hunters and 2 more just so I can land them first turn to block LoS. I needed a delivery method that wouldn't leave my smaller melta Hunter pack walking as well. That's the only reason why the 2 Long Fang groups I have both have a drop pod.

I would never give drop pods to a long fang squad. Just give them to the plasma grey hunters. That way, you can drop the plasma squad and vaporize some infantry if you want or you can still drop the empty pods. But you're going to want your LF's deployed on the first turn. You don't want to drop them in a pod.

Drop Pod List:

8 Drop Pods

5 Grey Hunters each with attached Wolf Guard

2 Long Fangs each with WG Termie with CML)

1 Wolf Guard Termie (3 WG with Combi-Melta)

That gives you 4 to drop in on 1st turn. Drop the long fangs in empty or get rid of them and just deploy them.
That gives you 1 grey hunter, 2 long fangs and termies to drop in later in the game... It could work.
