Playing not for long, I have seemed to notice a trend that a good amount of players with 2+ armies will always have some sort of MEQ in it...
Doesn't seem to me that a lot of players have only Xenos & Others in it.

I am going to test this theory and see if I am right or not~

What do you guys think & have?

I currently only have Eldar Tau, and Dark Eldar, But I'll probably be starting Chaos soon, just to have 1 MEQ laying around.

My first army was Space Wolves back in 2nd ed, before i even knew the background i just saw old bjorn on a shelf and knew it was meant to be.

There was a stage where i had more money than sense so got every army, now though limit myself my wolves are finnished and i've revived my old necron army buying a few units to get them to 2k.

DE and necrons, MEQ just don't appeal to me as much.

On topic though, isn't it very hard to avoid having at least a MEQ should you choose to collect more than 1 army? I mean, they take up almost 50% of the armies choices, I believe...

I have Orks and DE, my son has SM and a small Necron army. Although he doesn't really play anymore so I'll probably claim his Necrons. But he can keep the SM. I don't want them.
I'll probably get the new starter set keep the chaos and swap the DA for more chaos with a guy in my gaming group.

Considering that half of the codexes seem to be some sort of Marine variant, and that every 40k starter set every has included Space Marines, I'm not surprised that over half the population has at least a small marine army lying about somewhere.

I know they take up a large chunk and I wouldn't be suprised either, but you could still not buy MEQ...

Like me I play Ork and Dark Eldar and might go into getting some Eldar, Tyranids, Chaos in the future

Durban-South Africa. Like schwow man!

Collect Eldar , Tau , IG and Chaos (Thousand Sons) so I fall into to Xenos and others part (seeing as Chaos is not Space Marines as per the title) .

As to why , it's probably the most common reason around . There's not enough in the model range or background to really get me motivated to collect them .

Space Marines are really, really cheap to buy second hand so it makes them easy to collect as an additional army.

I started with Marines, then moved onto SoB and Eldar; due to how slowly the SoB were/are growing. The marines are more or less gone while the Eldar were shelved to make way for Daemons.

Buying MEQ hasn't ever crossed my mind...

I wouldn't consider IG Marines, but the Imperium just doesn't interest me...

Chaos isn't MEQ? Perhaps you mean Chaos Daemons?

I have a variety of armies.

I started with SW way back in 2nd edition because, hey, SPACE VIKINGS! After that I used my Space Hulk genestealers as the basis of a Nid army. Picked up SoB third because I liked Seraphim and no one in my group played them. Fourth I got into Salamanders when I bought a SW lot off eBay that had a ton of loose marines. IG came fifth when Witch Hunters could take IG allies and I ended up getting enough stuff ti field IG on their own. Finally when AoBR came out I bought it for the rulebook figuring Id sell the orks, but I loved the DeffKoptas so much I started an ork army.

Thankfully I have no interest in DA or Chaos (though at one point awhile back I considered a Thousand Sons army but the defiler ruined chaos for me somehow) so I dont see myself starting those anytime soon. I have been eyeing Tau lately though...

I play Chaos MEQ, Tau, Eldar both ascetic and emo, grey knights and chaos daemons....ya I has alot of armies.

Also I am one of those "bandwagoners" who saw the gorgeous GK terminators and HAD to make a draigo wing (I LOVE the idea of a small elite army of heroic individuals, and this army is as good as it gets, 22 models at 2k? YES PLOX)

But I love xenos, and in general dislike the imperium, as I have over 6000 points worth of eldar and growing, 2500 points of dark eldar, and around 3000 points of tau. My chaos daemons are around 3k strong and my CSM are around 4-5k. Love the nurgly bastards :3

I played exlusively Imperial Guard until about a month ago. I started chaos.

It seems that you have something against MEQ's. Like everyone who has one is on some giant bandwagon and those who haven't "caved in" are the true pure blood 40k players. Why is it bad that a lot of people have armies of the thing that makes 40k different than most other works of fiction?

I never mentioned anything about my attitude against MEQ, and yet have not said anything about people being in a bandwagon.
Don't know how you can interpret so much from so little.
That person said that there were already too many MEQ in his area, and hence I said at least you're not playing MEQ.

As for my own opinion about MEQ:
I think that most of their models/gameplay are more bland compared to other armies IMHO.
Obviously YMMV.

And once again I have never said anything about being an elite over MEQ players or saying playing MEQ is a bad thing.

At this stage chaos is an MEQ, though. If you are only counting space marines then I have none of them anymore. I've had *at least* 1 of every army and two different space marine forces. Now I have 3 chaos marine forces, 1 chaos daemons army, chaos renegades almost finished and orks and dark eldar in progress. So no actual space marines in my current mix of 7 armies, but I do have plenty of their weaker cousins...

I recently started playing Eldar, and have since enjoyed them a lot. Prior to that, the only army I owned were my Ultramarines. It's a fun change, going back and forth between MEQ and non-MEQ.
