Not that you would ever want to use any weapon besides the Warscythe.
In fact, the warscythe is one of the best cc weapons in the game.
What kind of Crypteks would you recommend and to what units you would stick them?
I honestly have't been using many Crypteks, since sixth. I've been doubling out on Destroyer lords. I would say, it would have to depend on the rest of your list. If you want some serious anti-tank, you can take a Stormtek, and 10 warriors. Drop them off from a Nightscythe, and they should be able to destroy any vehicle (sans flyers) in the game. Lanceteks really aren't needed anymore, but the Solar pulse is still a good choice. Veilteks work well with Deathmark Squads for suicidal runs, or if you want a mobile scoring troop unit, you can attach them to a group of warriors/immortals.

Well, I haven't run Crypteks either. It appears that Necron armies work well without them. The Solar pulse, however, could make a Necron army more survivable and is what I'm actually looking for.

Obyron does that job with the added bonus of being some CC capability and a 2+ wound eater. (granted you only get one of him)

I agree with Sasori and Wuerstenfux. Crypteks were required in 5th (often double courts!), but now they really need to serve a specific purpose. You can spend A LOT of points on a royal court and not get much use out of it. Destructeks are still good, but their main reason for existing in 5th is gone. Warrior squads just don't need the help in opening up vehicles. They are still useful for hurting MC's. Definitely include a solar pulse on one. Despairteks are my favorite. Already mentioned is their nice combo effect with Deathmarks, and the nice mobility of including them with a scoring unit. Stormteks are great at opening up tough vehicles, but it's a very close range shot. They also make it tough to charge your squad (add a Lightning Field). Chronoteks are only useful if you are running Imoteck or some sort of Deathstar unit. You'd need the chronometron for their effect. Tremorteks had their day in 5th. I don't think that their shooting is all that useful when people get to take armor saves against dangerous terrain tests. It is also nice to slow fast assault units, but not worth the points IMO.

Last page I asked about Res Orb Lords in big warrior/immortal squads. alspal8me gave some good feedback saying that while they are very resistant to shooting, they are easy enough to sweep in melee.
What about if you have plenty of counter assault options? Does this become more viable depending on your list?
IHateNids, you are one of the few people who I have seen use them, care to share you experience with them?

Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee. |

I have used RC Lords in Lychguard Squads. I find they work very well in challenges, wounding on a 2+ whereas getting wounded on a 5+ by MEQ, or is swinging first and probably killing him unless there is a SS in there.
Added in the fact of making guys in challenges hit themselves in the face, being able to one-shot MCs and bring your guys back to life easier, it really makes the investment worth it.

So I got the BF yesterday from my flgs. Man are the warriors small! I guess I'm only use to Orks and they're a bit beefier than these guys. Thinking of starting a P&M blog for my Necron army keep you posted if I do.

Mind shackle scarabs and warscythes...2 of the nastiest pieces of wargear in the entire game...they make most basic troops at least think before assaulting our squishy warrior units.
Good units to start with?
CCBs are great and can double as Annihalation barges with the awesome kit! Both of these units are good.
Wraiths are quite good and points efficient.
The warriors vs immortals debate comes down to personal preference...I actually use a mix of both, immortals for the tesla and warriors for the gauss.
Destroyer Lords are AMAZING they shine when running with praetorians.
Scarabs are excellent vehicle munchers and synergize flawlessly with tomb spyders...
I dont think there really are bad units in the codex, even flayed ones can be useful if used and supported properly. I am a fan of them. But they are difficult use well. They need support (usually from a rez orbed DLord) to function in any form other than a tarpit. Most people will poo poo this statement but I feel it is true. Yes the DLord can be run with other things and will shine brightly with them...but he can also be used to make flayed ones much more effective than they would otherwise be.
If you are going to plunk money down on flayed ones though, find the old metal ones...they new ones suck and are ugly!
Sorry but I just can't let this one go.. Necrons Warrior... SQUISHY??????!!!!!!!!! They have been given better survivability than marines and at a lower cost. Excuse me, but what the hell?!
Have you ever gotten into CC with them? 1 attack at I2 with only a 4+ save really doesnt bode well for winning a combat...and once again that I2 makes it very difficult to neigh impossible to run away (ie we pretty much ALWAYS get swept). Shooting them down Ill agree is stupidly difficult...but then it always has been. CC is where they are squishy...its a problem I have been dealing w since 4th!
As for an RC lord...I used to run an MSSed scythed lord with the cryptek that had the aeonstave to ward away my buddys demon prince...guy wouldnt go near that unit and everyother CC unit he had tended to get tied up fighting wraiths, scarabs, or lychguard (also w MSS and scythe lord). Dont think it would work quite as well in 6th...should try it my next game (provided I get time away from work to actually play!)
