So I'm putting together my brand new Land Raider Crusader, and I'm faced with what seems to me to be a huge problem; which doors get the sponsons?

Lots of pictures show them on the back set of doors, but I've always thought that it was foolish for people to dash out a door in front of flashing guns. But I'm convinced that to place them incorrectly will anger the model's Machine Spirit, and I will resigned to rolling 1's for the rest of eternity.

So which way is it Dakka? Help a battle-brother out.

You get to pick, but i would choose the front doors IMO, but thats me. The machine spirit wont mind which door as long as it gets to shoot

The guns won't be flashing when you exit the vehicle, it's not like you combat roll out the door while the tank goes at speed with guns blazing. Tank stops, guns stop firing, exit troops.

forward hatch makes less sense than anything else, funnel of death, big no-no.

The Machine Spirit's main concern is good looks. Put the model really close to your ear, close your eyes and listen closely... if you don't get a whisper of wisdom kneel and recite the Litanies of Forward Moving Metal, then go in for another listen.

Depends on what your shooting and how you plan to play it. Lascannons have good range so who cares. Placing weapons on the front opening gives an extra 2" of range which could be good for Hurricane Bolters. Flamestorm cannons are the trickiest of the lot since its template based and you cant hit your own guys. Usually on the front so you can pivot your vehicle, get the guys out, hit bad guys with flaming death, then assualt the remains.

Life isn't fair. But wouldn't it be worse if Life were fair, and all of the really terrible things that happen to us were because we deserved them?

I have mine in the back and honestly I've never been in a situation where having them in the front would have been beneficial.

really the only difference is where the side exit points will be.

I have guns forward and hatches backward. Just seems more sensible to me, rather than a game practicality perspective.

well you could always magnetize all the doors so you don't have to chose

2500pt Red Corsairs Army

The lascannon raiders I have have them on the rear hatches (and a "Warning: Do not stand in front of laser cannons" sign on the forward hatches). The crusaders have the hurricane bolters up front for range.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Yes, I have mine magnetized. Just so i can switch them and get an extra 2" if need be.

Its just personal preference. Conventional wisdom would tell me that you most likely wouldnt want to mount a hurricane bolter or twin lascannon right behind a door that marines deploy from. Seems funny to think they would have to cease fire to let their payload out and avoid blowing their heads off.....so for this reason, I mount the deployment doors behind the weapons.
